You say the training contract starts in September, so why can't you work up until then?

Could you not negotiate with them and say that you need a job in order to live? If not, then you'll just have to work every hour God sends throughout the summer.

no i am not on a training contract YET, i am doing the LPC. but i have a training contract lined up for Sept and i have signed the contract for this. the point is, i cannot work as part of this and despite what you know from friends, until you have been through this process you know nothing. i do not have my head in the sand, if i did, why am i here? i know i have debt, i know i need to pay it off...what more exactly am i in denial about? please clarify....i am willing to hear anything, but i am not willing to risk my career.

That's right: ignore these poorly informed people who tell you to get a part-time job. In the long run you will qualify as a solicitor and then be able to repay your debts with eas (and get a big thank-your present for Dad). That long-term goal has to be your priority.

In the short term, learn to live on whatever income you have at present: it is a useful discipline. Don't waste time and energy worrying about your debts, so long as you are making all minimum payments and they are not actually increasing.

Is your problem guilt? In which case, posting on here is a good way to begin dealing with it. Or do you face practical difficulties in living on your current income? For that, there are some helpful tips in the "old style" section of this forum.

If you have signed a contract that stipulates no part time work (and very many of them do)then it would be very foolish indeed not to adhere to it. Anyone who advises otherwise does not understand the implications or believes to be underhand is the correct way to behave. Ignore them.

Regardless of what others have said I think your father would be happy to help on the understanding that you repay by direct debit from your salary. I am sure he would not want you to be so stressed,so put away your pride and speak to him, emphasizing that you have learned your lesson and will mend your extravagant ways!!!

Your debt is miniscule in comparision to most students so dont be too hard on yourself!!

I do beg to differ - whilst I may not know everything, surely experiences (widely differening) from several people is better than just one person. That's why when you do research you use more than one source ;)

Well you're in denial that you need to earn money to pay off your debt - how to most normal people get hold of money?

Why would the OP lie about the contract stipulations she has signed up to?

How can you advise her to break such a contractual obligation and not expect her to face some backlash because of it?

She has stated she has a job in the pipeline, and at that point will begin to pay off more of the debt. I would also assume that her debt is much less than most students leave further education with.

Maybe you resent the fact that her father has helped her and feel she should be "punished "rather than helped with her problem.?other than that I cannot see where you are coming from to make such a suggestion. However it is not clever nor reasonable to advise a future lawyer breaks a contract with her employer.

Fortunately the OP seems only too aware of this:D
