Only a suggestion but why don't you take the envelope and correspondence between you and seller to the Police and get an incident number. Contact Ebay/Paypal and tell them what has happened and tell them you have now involved the Police. This may help your cause.

Can you state what you bought from Ebay? The reason for this is, it would be interesting to know how much your items would have weighed. Say for example it's face powder, lipstick, mascara. Firstly they aren't massively bulky but they would have to go in the post as a parcel because a large envelope has to be smaller in depth than 25mm (2.5cm).

If you can, go to a shop, take a small set of scales (may look daft but it's the principal of the matter) and explain to the shop assistant why you need to weigh the items (so it corresponds with the postage paid by the seller).

Secondly, recorded parcels would cost one of these:-

    a: 1st class under 100g £1.79 or 2nd class £1.62
    b: 250g £2.08 or £1.90
    c: 500g £2.54 or £2.22 (what she paid)
    d: 750g £3.08 or £2.62

If you can find out what your items should have weighed you can see if they correspond with the weights/prices above and what is shown on the envelope you have received.

    Good luck x

any pictures of the envelope? are we talking a jiffy bag?
    smaller than a4?

how big was the item being sent?
  • Hi everyone my first time on this board :)
Your buyers fb shows previous sales, has she sent any items by signed for?
What were postal charges of similar items?
If she has 'signed for' for other parcels but not yours that would be a bit strange.
I sympathise with both sides, it's a tricky one
I send items in jiffy bags which have a strong seal with tape over too just to make sure. It would be obvious if it had been tampered with.

I think it sounds like someone in the RM system has 'lifted' the item, as it'd probably be fairly easy to carefully re-seal a bubble envelope, it's a tricky one though.

Is there any way you could post photos of the envelope on here so we can see it?

    but why would you bother?
in real terms it surely easier to take the whole item?

I suppose. But I remember a while ago seeing a TV program where RM staff were stealing the contents of items, then the recipient received an empty envelope.

Just made me think of this.

I'm with the seller on this, 2000 + feedback

buyer why buy if you don't have the money, keeping someone waiting 2/3 weeks before you pay up is a no no

why refuse to send the envelope to the seller so they cld get royal mail to look into this

I don't think you ever had the right to go through RM yourself, that has to be done by the seller.

I agree with dinglebert. Had this thread been started by the seller we would have told them to go all the way and they would more than likely win the PP dispute. As it is we aren't advising the seller but I think the end result will still be the same, they will win a PP dispute and you (OP) will be left with no item and no money.

You can place a claim with the RM as the Sender OR the Recipient - have done this myself with an item I bought on ebay which was wrecked when it got to me. RM wanted the packaging kept but didn't look at it in the end. It did arrive to me in one of the RM's sealed bags as it had been damaged by the RM machinery

Sorry my bad- the charge is £2.54. The parcel should have had a 200ml bottle inside

    So one item was missing.
SELLER: Please send me details of how I can forward the dreadful emails this person has sent me.She won 2 items and could not pay.

So what happend to the second item?

Nothing personal to the original poster but look at this as if the seller had posted the thread.

The winner bidder did not pay for over two weeks.
You posted the item recorded delivery which cost £2.54. Given that it it the post office that weigh it and take it off you immediately then there is not way that you can remove the item from the envelope. Therefore the seller did send the item.
They can track that the envelope arrived.
The seller has over 2000 feedback all possitive.
The buyer who is new to ebay informs the seller that when the envelope arrived it was empty.

If it was the seller who posted here who would we side with given the facts that have all been verifed by the buyer.
Cannot see Paypal siding with the buyer on this one.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Also, if they seller was one of us, we'd probably think the same thing.

Now that it has escalated to a claim, i'm sure the seller won't bother trying to talk to Royal Mail about getting compensation, but it might be worth a try talking to her.
