  • P.S. Take pictures of outside and any packaging or documents that were in it and then send it back to the seller and ask them to claim from the PO.
Look carefully at the other end of the envelope and any seams, etc. (but don't open it any more than it is already.

  • There was absolutely no sign of damage to envelope, no possible way someone could have taken the bottle out, that is something I assumed too but the envelope was perfect so i dont think that could be the case or could it? I asked the postman for a note but he doesnt know what was supposed to be in the envelope therefore he cannot sign. By the way the seller is now accusing me of talking 'utter rubbish'

    OK
So it should have weighed 250-500 g - so that is about right.
Presumably it was sent with packing etc. to prevent breakage.

Being a bottle, someone could have detected this by shaking it and then removed the bottle in the hope it was expensive perfume. Was there any clue as to its contents on the outside?

So it looks like a case of PO pilfering. Take photos as suggested and ask for a refund or replacement. It is not your fault. If poss. can you get the postman that delivered the parcel to sign a note to say that it was empty when he/she delivered it to you?

In any case, say you are very sorry to the seller, but unless you get a refund or another, you will give -ve feedback. If you paid by PayPal then you can claim back the money using their arbitration system if communication with the seller breaks down.

Was it taped up? or just the normal envelope seal?

Only if someone took the item out they could have used parcel tape or something to reseal the envelope, but it would only look "odd" to the person sending it if they didn't use tape.
  • surely the postman would know by the weight that the parcel was empty?
It should have weighed over 200 g + packing. If it was empty it would have weighed only a few grams?
The ppostman could give you a note to say that in his estimation the parcel weigheg approx xx grams - or at least no where near 200g+packaging?
Also if he shook it at all - he could say that it did not make any noise or react like it contained a bottle of liquid?

I seal my jiffy bags and then put an able lable return address label across the seal. However it is still possible to carefully prise open the envelope and then reseal it without being obvious. It isn't always posisble but often enough for it to be a real posisbility. I now seal all that with an extra level of rather sticky sellotape.

This all sounds very weird though, I don't like the idea that someone has apparently dleiberately set out to do this, whoever or wherever that person is I wonder how they live with themselves.

Think you need to be careful as there is bound to be limited time to make a formal complaint to the PO. As someone said, I think it will be for the sender to make the claim.

Suggest you keep her on side and say "look, there is a problem here, so lets sort it out together".
  • I am going to take a few pictures now but I dont know if there is any point because I already opened the envelope and I could be the one they blame!

The envelope just has the normal seal so no tape, it also has a mini sticker on the seal which the seller has typed her details on.

If the £2.54 stamp (Packet upto 500g) is a small square one that the PO print then the item was there at the time of posting.

Ask the seller to submit a claim to RM
  • Does the seller need envelope to make a claim to the PO?
She is now saying that I have to return the make up for a return which is what i want, which i didnt even receive!
  • send the packaging back to show you are sincere and they will may be able to see if the packaging has been interfered with or changed in any way. Include ALL contents when you return it (i.e. all bubble wrap, paper documents, etc.)

I have no faith in the PO. When I moved recently I asked the PO to redirect my mail. I was then subject to identity theft and mail interception for about 2 years. I am sure that the PO workers look at the 'redirect mail' list and then help themselves to the mail knowing that I would think that the mail had been sent to my old address. I have even had credit cards sent to my new address and even falsified pay slips (these were redirected correctly!). One of the cards was not even in my name! They each had a £14,000 credit limit and could easily have caused me a great deal of trouble!

You just can't trust the sorting office workers these days, the PO employ loads of temporary labour and some of them only do it for what they can filch!

    good luck
