I thought that there was a set up charge??

Also that it was subject to continuation of Sky TV subscription and a lengthy stitch in contract.

Sky have been known to increase their prices in the past.. ;)

As far as I know there is no setup charge? Though I have the full sky world package with movies and sport and sky+ etc. so not sure if it was free because of that?

In my case the free broadband is just a bonus as i subscribe to the TV package anyway. Otherwise I would have to pay seperately for something I get for free. If there was a cost for replacing a sky router paying £15 a month ssaved on another ISP service would pay for this

No setup costs for existing customers for MAX, £30 for MID and £60 for BASE

I am on MAX so mine was free. So yes there is a set up cost for the free service

I moved from BT to Sky a couple of months back. No problems.

I did go for the £5 per month option which has 40gb Download usage.

Still a lot cheaper than the £22 for 8GB per month BT charged me and also my broadband speed has tripled.

BT I was only getting 1.5MB (on a upto 8MB package) but with Sky I get 4.5 to 5MB.

    So very glad I moved.

There is a £30 setup charge when you transfer over. but most ISP 's seem to charge this nowadays.

Hi, we have been considering changing to Sky BB, so I have just phoned to ask if I can continue to use our own wireless router and not theirs and the chap promised that I can use my own, they just send theirs out as a matter of course. If that is the case I will think seriously about changing.

The router is a netgear router (about £80 when i signed up from Amazon) the only difference being it is flashed with Sky's firmware. Meaning that you can only use it with sky services. Pretty fair to me considering its free!!! If you have an issue or the router gets "screwed" then just reset the router with a pin (button on back or bottom somewhere) and you DO get ther password with the router. If you have changed this and dont know it then reset the router and enter the default one. If you dont know the default one try this link.....

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=SKY+ROUTER+PASSWORD&meta=

    ;) try the top link

No its not Netgear. The router supplied to my inlaws is a Sagem & to my knowledge no one has managed to crack it. & you DO NOT get the DSL username & password supplied. Sky will not supply it as I found out after 2 hours on the phone to them. It's against their policy, they say.

Sky's broadband offering is good for the price, but if something goes wrong with it god help you.

OK, thanks tightbarsteward, just read t & c, says to use theirs. Phoned again, said about t & c, girl said yes we can use our own but sometimes customer's own doesn't work!!??!!?? Sounds like we would end up using theirs, may be worth it to have cheap BB??
  • the new routers they supply (sagem) are, reputedly, a bit rubbish (sky user forums), but if sky llu was available to me i'd consider leaving my present, very good isp, seems with sky you do get a lot for your money!
