My kid is 11 years older than me and unfortunately very stubborn. We did however, have the builder round before measuring up - and his words seem to have penetrated! My [STRIKE]OH[/STRIKE] kid has been cleaning this afternoon. I was so shocked I nearly had to go for a lie down!! :rotfl: A step in the right direction??? Fingers crossed!

Right...more progress. Spend 2.5K at B & Q getting all that stuff I was talking about May/June time. It's all bought and paid for now - which means my OH HAS to pull his finger out! I'm soooo excited! I'm feeling so much more positive than the other day!

I feel like we might actually get some stuff done over summer now! Yey!
EDIT: Bathroom suite being delivered on the 8th August

I also spent £198 in the Next sale (oophs) - mainly school clothes and £50 was on a nice coat as well - I only have ski jackets or macs...not very good for posh doos. I also spent £89 at Amazon on books to help me with school. I technically don't need them but they will make life easier so I figured it was worth it!

My bank account is going to be looking a little rough but my golden hello should perk it back up when that finally arrives (I've been told October).

Having such a good day....I'm buzzing. Although being a geek I started marking some coursework that's been handed to me from another teacher (I'm taking over their class)! SHOCKING! Thats all I can say...going to have to remark EVERYTHING!

Hey Twinklie, glad you're feeling better and your progress with getting OH interested in doing stuff on the house sounds really positive.
I'm sooo impressed that you've started marking coursework already.... am dreading going back to work tomorrow myself!
Looking forward to hearing how it all goes. Sarah.

Thanks Sarah. I know I'm a geek. But I won't relax until I've done all the bits I need to get done for school done. So if I get it done sooner rather than later then I can enjoy the last 5 weeks I reckon!

How long my commitment lasts is another thing entirely! Ha ha

EDIT: Only 4 pupils work in one class left to mark! Thats 8 pieces left! Woo hoo. Then one more class to go and coursework is DONE!

Right was just totting up what else I need to shell out for this month and trying to decide if I can afford an OP or not.
    • B&Q £2.5K - 6 mths 0% interest free credit (to be paid off as soon as golden hello comes through).
    • Next £198 - paid off as soon as the bill comes through
    • Amazon - £89 taken directly out of bank account
    • Car insurance - £550 approx - comes out at the end of the month.
    • Mattress - Approx £300 - 400. Need to find one.

    Total spend £ 3737
July payment £ 837 (plus mattress if I can find one).

So looks like no OP this month because I need some money in reserve to pay the builders with! Boo

Ok I've crunched some numbers and I think I can afford to squirrel away £150 in savings each month and OP mortgage by £200 each month!

I need to double check everything but it's possible - especially given that I'll be getting a pay rise in September!!

Don't include the rise in your calculations, that will give you a buffer for unforeseen items and of course inflation (CPI is 2.2.% now, guess it can only go up over the next 12-18months?).

Thanks for the note on my thread, perhaps I need to promote the link more strongly in future? Definitely not a financial genius though, otherwise I'd be retired by now, but I do hope I'm learning rapidly and in three years time we'll be reasonably diversified in our assets :o

Oooh don't worry Stuart rise hasn't been taken into account. I'm not entirely sure I'll get it is the main reason why - they have been paying me on what I think is the wrong pay scale....however, I'm not 100% and can't find anything to tell me what it should be. Asked what my pay scale should be (what was I hired on) and no one at school can tell me.

What is it about our education system that the administration at schools seems to struggle so much? Hoping with our DD moving up to secondary that communication with us improves. Best wishes in resolving your situation and that it all falls good for you.

I wouldn't hold your breath! I ring parents for the most part if it's anything I consider IMPORTANT! However, any letters I send I pass on to the admin folks - including letters of praise!

I've had feedback from various families etc to say that they've never got the letter, been sent to the wrong address, had the wrong name on, had the name of the other parent on even though they have split up/died! I don't know how they get it so wrong so often. Unfortunately quite a lot of the parents think I send everything personally so I've had LOTS of rather angry conversations!

But that could just be my school.
