Interesting! Maybe I'm stressed and I just don't realise. Hmmmmm.....if I am it's all schools fault because there is nothing remotely interesting or worrying going on in my private life!!

I'm rather tipsy and rather cheesed off. My OH has bogged off to his buddys house. He got back from holiday yesterday, called before and off he went running. So much for us celebrating being half way through my NQT year! I know I'm being selfish and stupid. But I don't see him when we are both working so I was really looking forward to tonight.

    Moan moan....mutter mutter.

Well at the weekend, due to the halt in getting a dog we decided I was allowed a treat. So I bought a Nintendo Wii. I've not stopped hurting since. ha ha.

We played Wii sports for ages on Saturday night (after rugby...c'mon Wales). Then I have done my Wii fit workout this morning. OMG! It's well hard work, I can't believe it! I'm hoping it will mean that I don't have to buy that gym membership and I can workout at home then when I get in from work. Much easier.

Keep posted to see if it actually happens. Anyone wanna place any bets?? Ha ha

Ok, so I bought the Wii, hubby is going away for a week to France snowboarding with his mate for about £400. So that was a lot of expenditure for us in one week.

Took car to garage...it's a right off. We need a new car. I'm gutted. Would never have bought the Wii (which I love and has caused me great pain) had I known. And he certainly wouldn't be going on holiday.

Nevermind, its getting sorted tomorrow....hopefully! We are looking at getting an estate in preparation for super huge dog! And would work well as a family car! Hmmm....

That's another good indication of why we all have our rainy day funds saved. Just think of the way it would hurt if you had to have a loan to buy the replacement car

This is true. But buying said new car will mean I no longer have any savings! I've not been without savings for years. I'm quite stressed at the thought of not having any savings left. OMG. Please don't let the boiler break!

Well a productive(ish) day was had. We had our mortgage deal quoted etc and went through all the paperwork. Doing that and submitting the application took 3 hours in total!!! I couldn't believe it. Glad we'd not booked to do anything else.

Still we've got the repayment plan for it all so fingers crossed now it will all go through and we will be upping our repayments significantly. So hopefully we'll get it paid off before the 17 year term. I get a pay increase in September so come November time should be able to commit to some significant overpayments each month. Fingers crossed.

We decided to stay with the fixed rate because at the end of the day it's far less scary. We can budget each month and not worry about any increases. I know if the market drops we lose out, but I would rather that and at least know where I stand.

We went to look at cars today too. We have a test drive booked in at 10.30 am on Saturday. I can't get over how much cars are. OH keeps laughing at me, but I genuinely had no clue. Anyhoo, looks like I'm not going to have a car for school on Sunday and as there is no public transport that goes from where I am to anywhere near school, it looks as though I might have to hire a car. Hmmmm..... I'm currently looking for alternatives. I would try for a lift, but it being HT I've no way of asking anyone. Besides which, I don't think anyone lives this far away in this direction. Poop.

I'm the same twink, I'd rather know what my payments will be every month so I can budget to it. I'd hate to have a sudden increase and not be able to pay.

I think a fix now at good rates will probably pay off; I doubt mortgage rates will drop further and once inflation kicks in during 2010, the "only way is up" so you may both find it to your advantage.

Regarding the administration associated with applications like mortgages etc, I agree it does seem to take hours, but, rather that and do it in detail than to be rushed through to get a signature?

Twinklie, you have to come clean and tell us how much you thought cars cost :D
Remember it is actually the "price to change" which is important as this is the actual money you have to find to make the purchase. Now should be an excellent time to buy, and start pushing them on pricing, do have details for "other" cars you may go to look at (even if this is a fib!). Get them out with OH when looking over the car so the salesman sees them, keep him/her on their toes that you may simply jump back in your car and off to a competitor. Push really hard on your limited funds (credit crunch etc) and that you know they need to make a profit but they will just have to work the deal to fit with you.

Remember, enjoy it, and play the game just like they will!

(BTW - our budget in theory is to allocate £4500 each year into savings to allow car replacement (2 off). Last one cost £15k for the three year old S-Type, (£10k price to change) but previously typically we were putting in £7k price to change. Hoping both vehicles keep us going for two more years, as it doesn't look like I won a car from the DVLA when I renewed the road tax!)
