Not by the department but rather SLT. I HATE my year 11's right now as well...they are the worst year group I've ever seen. Might are right little....well, lets just say I'm not fond.

I could have written this myself! I hate year 10, 11 and 12 so you're more tolerant than me. I think it's the time of year; they're bored especially now there's so much revision of stuff they think they've already done (yeah, it's called revision for a reason :p). It's too far away from exam time to feel the fear and knuckle down, too close for us to do any 'fun' lessons (not convinced I've taught a single fun lesson in my life though :rotfl:)

    Bank holiday soon! :D

Yeah I know....I know. But I've been hit, threated, verbally abused and stolen from (fortunately nothing I'm bothered about it's more the principle) and received no back up or support. I can't get a job anywhere else because I'm to expensive (I skipped a point on the pay scale) AND there are none to apply for anyway.

I want to be down in Wales with dh. I've even been looking at courses at Bangor uni. Honestly, I don't see myself teaching long term....defo not one of the lifers in the profession anyway.

I just feel angry, lost and frustrated. I really can't explain it. AND I've not had a bad week so far. Nothing much has happened at school these last 2 days, it's all been uneventful. I'm so confused.

That's absolutely disgraceful, there is absolutely no way you should have to tolerate being physically attacked in the course of your job. You would be perfectly entitled to call in the police for anything in your first paragraph. I bet it's really tough for you being away from DH, would quitting and going on supply be something you would consider? Core subject so you'd pick up plenty of work.

Teaching for me was definitely a 5 year plan and I certainly don't see myself as a lifer either. Yes, we get great holidays but I've done 10 hour shifts without proper breaks today and yesterday including covering 2 classes at once. An acknowledgement goes a long way

You'll be fine, it's just this half term to get through then we'll get gained time so it'll feel less bonkers

No I didn't...something I bitterly regret now. I've got to speak to the police at some point as well because one of the kids threatened a teacher (which I overheard) and she's gone to the police over it (do NOT blame her). Head has done nothing and in fact said year 11 is coming back in to school - possibly tomorrow...lessons as usual!

    It's nuts.

Whats your plan after your "5 years" are up honey? I'm too scared to do supply...it's the steady income we need right now. Which is why it's so hard... :(

No wonder you are fed up Twinklie. That is partly why i was fed up too. I had a boy hold a staple gun up to my head when i was pregnant with my youngest. He wasn't punished at all as 'he had a difficult upbringing'. The kid was an absolute nut job. That was totally unprovoked, and the best i got was my head of dept forcing the kid to give me the most insincere apology i have ever heard, as otherwise i refused to have him back in any lessons.Previously i had put up with him telling me i stunk, and being really rude on many occasions. I had another loveable rogue in the class who was also a pain to teach offer 'to bang him out' and i was tempted i tell you. The kids were as shocked as me he wasn't punished.

The school has a duty to protect you. Keep a log of it. You might want the union involved at a later date. It might help if you want to break contract at a later date without going through the half terms notice thing.

I think it is a real shame that people who are willing to stand up and do teaching are not supported more. It is not an easy route at all. Courgettes day says it all really doesn't it. I wonder how many do go in thinking it is for life nowadays. I hoped to do longer than i did but i can't see me going back at all. I choose life now, and family. I'd rather be poor than go back to that. A shame as i loved it, and put my heart and soul in while i did it.

I really hope something comes together for you really soon. Another reason to batter the mortgage all you can now so you can maybe do what i have done or at least find a less stressful occupation.

I've no fear of hard work and a bit of stress (as I'm sure you know given that I'm still teaching...ha ha), but I cannot cope with being unappreciated and disrespected all day everyday. I just feel like I'm at the very bottom of a big heap!!

I know it's not long to go but I'm already worrying about going back in September. Not worrying exactly but not happy about it. Surely thats not right? We do have year 10 work experience coming up in July (they come back for the last 3 days)....but I just don't feel excited or happy at the prospect of gained time even.

It's rubbish. I need to get a grip. Things could be soooo much worse. Right...time to stop being so self indulgent I think!

I felt like a performing seal all the time who every time i got my balance, someone threw me another plate to try and juggle. I realised i needed out when i saw how some of my colleagues were hounded out of their jobs, and saw the health problems people were suffering from, and the lack of sympathy and support.

It is not right that you are already dreading September. Do you think you have become a bit depressed because you are not with DH through the week? I know you are on here a lot and get company/support, but it is in no way the same thing. If something needs to change, you need to change it a bit. Is there no-one at work who is supportive? I knew i always had one or two people i could rely on for a bit of emotional support.

Yeah, my department are awesome. I have 2 really good girl friends in the department as well (one of whom I did my training with and is feeling exactly the same as me).

I had a good day today but I still don't feel right. I'm wondering if it's post holiday blues and a bit of separation anxiety from DH. I'm also feeling trapped after all this effort to get where I am....I wouldn't have a clue what to do next though! Ha ha.

Still, I'll be ok. Just need a job down there I think.
