I finally got my Breadmaker and it is like all my Christmases have come at once!
It is the Tesco own BM08 model and so far it is great. I made a normal white loaf yesterday morning 900g with a light crust and it was great. I had it toasted this morning with lashings of butter for my breakfast and then for lunch had a gorgeous ham salad sandwich. I have to learn to cut it thinner though as those doorstops are a bit filling lol.
I can't wait to experiment with loads of flavoured breads YUMMY!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I've always used the Tesco dried yeast and it's been perfect every time. Wholemeal has been perfect too, and I've only every bought standard strong flour, not necessarily organic unless I remember to!That's Numberwang!0

I have had my Panny for a couple of years and had never had a problem with it at all, have always had beautifully risen loaves, both white and wholemeal - until the other week when I had two solid bricks in a row:eek: . I changed the yeast (I use the Dove one in an orange packet which lasts for ages) and realised that I'd opened a new bag of flour, so when the second loaf with the new yeast ended up as a brick also, I thought it must be the flour. I read through a few of the threads on here and thought it must be a bad batch of flour - the next packet I opened had the same use-by date and the loaf was just as bad. I bought a box of vitamin C tablets the next time I shopped and crushed up one and added it to the 'bad' flour mix - result - a beautiful risen loaf. Have had no problems since, I added the vitamin C to both a wholemeal and the white loaves and both are fabulous again. Phew!
I've used up all the bad flour now and am debating whether to risk a brick with a new packet or to carry on with the vit c tablets....

Tesco flour & dried yeast have been fine for me too, no problems at all.
I'd like a bit of advice on dough, what does everyone use to cover it while it proves? I used greased cling film & put it on top loosely but I ended up with greasy squashed cobs. If I use a teatowel will it be better or does it stick to itOoh & if anyone knows what mix to use to make M&S style submarine rolls you'd make my day
Thanks in advance

I've had a Panasonic for nearly 4 years and so has my mum.. I love it!!
Fifi35 - I think the problem could be the flour... A baker once told me that the quality of flour is everything to your bread and that cheaper brands are not as consistently made as others. I have always used Hovis and never had a problem yet... My mum alternates between, Allinson, Hovis & occasionally Doves - dependent on where she is when she buys it!
Surfing Spaniel - when I make rolls I don't cover them but I have a cooker with the grill under the hob but above my oven (does that make sense?) and I put my oven on low to heat up and put my rolls in the grill section to prove (grill not on). This speeds up the process and man do they grow big!!
Also, to all home breadmakers - anyone like Tiger bread? I have a recipe for the paste you need to make it but it uses white rice flour (not sweet rice flour) and I can't find it anywhere..
xxLife....mmmm....still trying to figure that one out but what I do know is if I had all the answers it'd be a hell of a lot easier!!!!!!:p0 -
Had my first disaster in the Panny yesterday. My first time using Morrisons bread flour. The loaf looks like it's feebly risen then sunk disastrously. It looks terrible. Not even bothered to slice it, it weighs a ton so I know it won't be nice. It won't be going to waste though, I'm going to turn it into a choc and banana bread and butter pud this afternoon in readiness for the arrival of visitors later!! Will try another loaf with the flour then return it all to Morrisons if I have another disaster like this.
The second loaf I made with the same flour was just as bad. I returned both packs I'd bought to Morrisons and had a refund (only 96p but that's not the point). Had to buy Allinsons at £1.46:eek: cos they'd got no choice, so my next three loaves are going to work out a lot more expensive. Morrisons have had my details and they reckon the flour will be sent away for analysis. I don't know if that's really the case but I'll chase them in a month or so if I don't hear anything.
Forgot to say that the second loaf didn't go to waste either, I made lamb and butter bean stew and it was fine for mopping up the juices. Not really useable other than that.0 -
Hi all, after my first few attempts turning out like bricks, I am now using different flour (was using Asda) and i am now using Tesco and I have got some Doves too, the bread is so much better, still not quite as big as some of the pictures on here but then it wouldn't fit in my toasterSealed pot Member target £200 - No. 151

Thanks for that Knonie, I'll give it a go this afternoon without covering them up. I haven't got a separate grill, so I heat the oven up to 40 degrees & turn it off, I pop them in there & it seems to be about the right temperature to make them rise beautifully.0

H/m rolls are lush!! I make them every week for DH's lunch and his colleagues apparently look on with envy as he tucks in! He works in an open plan office of 30-40 staff and is the ONLY ONE who takes a packed lunch
. There is a Sainsbo's at the bottom of the hill so everyone goes in there rather than save their money - its beyond me!
I reckon if I could get my a*se into gear I could do well in business there....;) Anyone ever done this as a money maker?Life....mmmm....still trying to figure that one out but what I do know is if I had all the answers it'd be a hell of a lot easier!!!!!!:p0 -
Every loaf I have made so far has induced hiccups in my family - I am wondering if I can sue Panasonic. Perhaps someone can clarify the legal position? Thanks0
