I am in love with my Panasonic breadmaker

My 255 is squeaky when mixing but the bread is great.
I have another question though, when using the 'dough' option to make soft breadbuns, how do you get them to come out as soft rolls rather than crusty (still tasty) rolls?0 -
Hi dfub,
I cover my rolls with a tea towel as soon as they come out of the oven. Once cooled they are lovely and soft. I then freeze what I'm not using that day and defrost in the microwave as and when. They still come out lovely and soft-my son won't have anything else for his packed lunch!0 -

Problem is that I got it from John Lewis and now they're out of stock again so won't be able to do a quick swap if it is faulty.
It would really help if you could let me know how yours sounds so that I can make a quick comparison.
Still, the bread still tastes great:p

Hi,
I also got mine from JL & swapped it due to the loud squeaking, the 2nd also squeaked so I persevered with it & the squeaking has eased to a very small noise now and again. The only thing I found is make sure the bread bucket is firmly secured when putting it in the breadmaker, we give it a firm twist when placing it in the breadmaker to secure it .0 -
Thanks for the replies so far - looks like a couple of you do have squeaky ones!
I don't really know what to do now, the machine makes fab bread but I'm worried that the squeak means that something inside isn't working properly. I don't want it to break down in a few months time as I'd really miss it.
I'd love to hear from more of you about noise levels and then I'll have to decide whether to take it back and try to swap it.
Moneysaver, I've got a quick question - did your replacement sound just as loud or was the squeak quieter?

The squeak was not as loud, but it was still annoying. I was on the verge of sending the 2nd one back when I tried giving the pan a firm twist before starting the cycle & it almost dissapeared. It has got a lot quieter now.
I also tried doing a trial run without any dough, & when the squeak starts have the lid open then hold the pan a bit & it went away, so this confirmed for me it was the bread pan, it was just not seated right. Try it for a while if you are not happy JL are very good at returns.

Sounds normal to meWhen mine is mixing and kneading it's quite noisy and rattly - like you, I posted a message asking if it was normal and apparently it is. I don't think it's a tight fit into the bracket because the pan needs the movement to do it's job. Theres very little to go wrong with the breadmaker so I wouldn't worry.
I cant believe the 255 is still out of stock. I was looking about 2 months ago and settled for the 254 because I didn't want to wait any longer.0 -
I have an actual energy cost for the wholemeal sandwich programme ie 5 hours. 5.20 pence (ebico rate of 12.72/kwh) not bad at all !!!!

I got my 255 today!!! Hurray!!! I can't wait to use it, have got to eat the bread in the bread bin first though (and we're not allowed to feed the ducks in our park otherwise they'd have got the tail end of the burgen soya and linseed, I am so excited!!)That's Numberwang!0
