Hi-i haven't posted for a while as I've been away from my computer! It's going pretty well though. I didn't have a drink all week until Friday which was as I'd planned. My hubby came in from work on Wednesday with a bottle of wine and my immediate though was 'Oh no-I'll have to have a drink tonight now' However I let him have 2 glasses whilst I drank water and the half bottle left stayed there until Friday-if I'd been drinking I would have polished off the half of the bottle in no time! On Friday I had about 5 halves of lager and a glass of wine which was classic binge drinking but at least I'd cut it out in the week without any pain. DH went away on Saturday night so I was home alone and normally would have put away a bottle on my own but didnt drink anything as I've also vowed not to drink alone again. I still binge drink though and drink fast as Friday showed. The couple we were with commented on how fast I drank my first two halves..which is concerning me. I have an addictive personality-kind of an all or nothing one as well. I have been addicted to cigarettes and exercise in the past and have alcoholism in the family which is why i've joined this thread. Well done to everyone else on here-you are doing so well and inspiring me.

beckseven, I can understand your worry, but well done for abstaining when your OH was drinking, that's fantastic and takes amazing control!! Well done for not drinking when you were in by yourself as well, that's my downfall. Great work!

AB, welcome to ISOM's thread  why do you think you might have a problem, if you don't mind me asking. Tell me to b00ger off if I'm prying too much :)

Well only you know if you have a problem with it Abs, maybe google AA and do their 12 questions and see what the results are. Has anyone else commented on your drinking or don't they know?

    I'm only nearer 40 cos I'm 1 day over 35 :D

PK shamefacedly shuffles in and asks to join in again after disasterous boozy month in March.
Had too many nights out (and in) and lost the plot a bit. DH now away working during the week so that's good incentive - I don't think it's a good idea for me to drink on my own.

Nice to see that a lot peeps are doing really well - inspiring

    Hiya beckseven,

Sounds like you're doing very well, and I think you're being far too hard on yourself!

Please don't tell me off for saying this folks, but is drinking 2 1/2 pints (beckseven's 5 halves) of lager and 1 glass of wine on a Friday really that big a deal?

    Or is it just that I'm a p*sshead?! :o

Love and best Wishes to you all anyway.

Thanks for welcoming me the other night Jo, ISOM, Andy and co. Hope you all had a good weekend :T

My first day as the new boy, at my new job was a bit scary, but they're a great crowd of lads, and although I felt very anxious and it probably showed, I think I did very well!

More recently (as Andy described very well in his post the other night), I'd rather be 'the real me', albeit a bit shy and awkward at times, but still friendly and funny at times (I like to think!) 'me', and me without the booze inside me :j Apparently, one of the guys who's been there years, told me he could see me on the sale floor, thinking I'd be "ideal" at sales.

So, it's the usual case of my addictive, negative, overly - analytical, obsessive side that things to poorly of myself, whereas it seems in this case, my colleague saw a much better version of 'myself' than I do! ...a classic case of needing to work on my self esteem if ever there was one

it is tough being back at work, surrounded by a small team who've been there years, and I've not worked for a good 6 months, so it's not easy..

Alas, the last drink I had was when I'd been out on a complete bender for two days, drinking Guinness, lager and double vodka and tonics..ending a week last Friday..so that's 10 days ago :T

    Well Done me!

    Well Done of all us!

All the Best to you all,

    Leigh x
  • Just been catching up with the posts before I head off for bed.
First day back at work after two weeks off............................but paced myself.
Have busied myself since getting home as this is my most vulnerable time.........went for a walk...............and just generally kept myself occupied. So far so good !!...............and a tray of homemade flapjacks as well.
Leigh glad the 1st day at the job went well. They sound like a positive bunch of guys, which is always good for the self esteem. 10 days as well - way to go :T
Jo Great news about the test results........big hugs......you've been lucky this time. Stay lucky .............if you get my meaning. Happy birthday......................and happy holidays.
ISOM Have a good book club. I loved reading the two books you mentioned.............so well written.
To those of us who are moving step by step and hour by hour...................keep up the good work................and keep posting ...................it will help us all keep on track.
So if you're not feeling the fear..............then at least hope you're feeling calm and relaxed.................a flapjack, anyone?? :rotfl:
  • Morning All,
Blimey - go away for a couple of hours and come back to about 30 new posts!

Belated happy Birthday for yesterday Jo. Hope you had a good one.

Slight disappearing act yesterday as the eldest DS wrote off his car for the second time in 2 months. Really must tell him to buy some new glasses . :rotfl:. Had to help him find a small runabout as a spare while he's sorting himself out! Think he's learned his lesson this time.

Its nice to see so many new posts in one way, but sad in another.... if you know what I mean.

Anyway - Have a great day, will catch up with all the new posts later.

    284 hours for me.

    Best Wishes
    Andy
