  • Evening all!

Eselt, you are so right. I love waking up in the morning and feeling LIVELY rather than sluggish and ill. My skin is better, my digestion is better and I am better! Yes, I'm still drinking but LOTS less than I was. Makes me feel very happy!

    Long may this feeling continue!!

  • Just read some posts on this thread, congratulations to you all. I watched my 38 year old sister died a slow, humiliating and painful death from what started as a social drinking habit and eventually lead to a breakdown and ultimately her death. She went from never having been a penny overdrawn in her life to over 60K in debt and 40K savings gone supporting her drinking habit. Power to you all for working so hard to save those pennies and your health!!! Happy xmas and new year to you all xxx

    morning all.

decided against the seasonal thread for several reasons - the most important being my family. it became evident that having some time away from the net would be good for my health! have drunk lemonade, coffee, tea, pineapple juice, and blackcurrant cordial and not been tempted in the least by the liquid evil.

back to reality tomorrow...hope everyone's OK.

Anitlom, sorry to hear about your sister. I wonder if every family has been touched by alcoholism in some way? Quite a scary thought.

Well I'm doing the packing for when we go away tomorrow. We are taking all the kids away for new year. On my list was wine and pernod but have decided against packing both of them. I guess I feel the kids have seen me drunk enough. We've worked hard to pay for this holiday and I really don't want to ruin it by being drunk. So I'm packing books, games, sweets, soft drinks, hot chocolate, a few little presents for the kids etc.

Guess it says a lot about me that wine and pernod were at the TOP of my list though. Guess its that mindset that needs to change. And it WILL.

Have good Sundays all....will pop in and out today but off for five days tomorrow. What will I do without this site for 5 days !!!

Hi all- anitlom, been there with my sister in law, you are quite right, its a very very nasty death, she was only 36 too- far too young to let this monster take her, she was so sweet and kind and a wonderful aunty to my kids, what does this stuff have to take from us (money, health, sanity, integrity, confidence, respect, homes, children, relationships etc) before we realise it won't work- whatever our problems are this stuff doesn't work, full stop.

Hope everyone is OK today- sober or soberish, it doesn't really matter, what matters is we have made a decision not to let this stuff consume us- we are all worth so much more. Keep it up guys!!!!

Thanks Eselt, that took the pressure off a bit, as I have just felt a failure at this giving up malarkey over the last week and have gone straight back to my old self of 10 units a day every day! Your comment sort of gave me a bit of perspective. At least I know of the problem, and am trying to go in the right direction.

Hopefully when I get back to the routine of work in the new year things will drop back to how they were before Christmas, OR EVEN BETTER!

    Best Wishes Everyone else

  • Hi everyone. Just been catching up on the thread. Lots of people are being successful by the sound of it. We will need a new thread soon for the few amongst us still drinking:o Christmas was OK in NTC land. Lots of family/friends stuff so lots of drink but at least I can say I didn't get drunk just maintained a level:rolleyes: Cant stand new year personally but that wont stop me from drinking it in Im sure:o

sort of looking forward to having a good go at AFJ with the winebox clause in my case:o

Have a good Sunday everyone and enjoy the wagon those of you who are on it:T

Am lurker who just wanted to say hello and a v. Happy New Year to all - this includes a new start to those who need it, well done to those who can do it/have done it and all the best of luck to those who are trying. Don't give up if you haven't yet - you can do it, but if you can't/haven't - everyone has their own pace and circumstance & non-judgemental friendship & support is here.

I never cease to be astounded emotionally, supportivley and practically by what I see on here.

I'm not known on this forum/thread and can't quite find the right words ... but above all just want to say, the friendship, advice and support on here is invaluable and second to none - I wish more people knew about it.

Thanks & good luck to all.

Thanks Pip- what a lovely post, you're right- its all here, mad, bad and dangerous- but we're all good to know, and we're good people to be in the trenches with because we all want to live our life, and alcohol is not helping, its not helping anyone at all.

I'd say to people thinking of giving up or reduce their intake that it's so worthwhile! Life is much better without booze. Also, the knock-on effect is quite an eye-opener. Apart from the obvious health and financial benefits, you'll be nicer to be around, make better decisions and have a clarity of mind that money can't buy.

I've not had a drop of alcohol in all of 2008.

    :)
