I know what you mean. I am strangely excited by January but then its easy to feel like that when I know I can have a drink today.

spot on comment - I always feel strong about tomorrow...as long as it never comes

Hi all, not been "in" since xmas day...

Lurkio - I saw Frankie H TWICE on the telly without even seeing Up Pompeii! Refuse to admit what I was watching though :o

Hi everyone else & welcome to newbies....loads of posts to catch up on...have been some great ones over Xmas esp people having a good time AF. I spose it must be possible then?
  • Hiya All,
glad everyone enjoyed xmas. I managed to stay AF despite lots of temptation, including my dad shouting at me on Xmas day that I was bringing everyone down by not drinking!! He's an alcoholic, but won't admit it. Anyhoo, back to work today, really quiet here which is good as I've come down with a chest infection, feel like a bag of carp!! Although reminds me of how I used to feel being hungover all the time!
GP - I started getting panic attacks back in the summer, always when driving and my doctor told me it was withdrawal. They stopped after I stopped drinking for 3 or more days, but then would return immediately I drank again. Still took me a while to stop completely tho, and I was on and off the wagon like a yoyo but got there in the end
    hugs all roundxxx

Well, it's official now, I've started a blog. It's more geared towards weightloss, but I feel deep down that the alcohol is a major part of this. I'm trying to have a good hard look at my life and the patterns of behaviour that I tend to follow. Binge drinking followed by binge eating is one of them.

I think I've talked about this long enough now - I have a strong urge to change a hell of a lot of things in my life. So this is the first step.

Hello everyone and to the new people.

I had one drink last night and will be AF today also.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that I will have at least 10 days AF in January and hopefully there will be more than that so I can feel like I'm working towards a goal. I am going to mark them on my calender to look back and see if there are any patterns.

Well done to all the people who stayed AF during so much temptation over Christmas and to those who have cut down.:A

Well have bitten the bullet today and spoken to a really good friend about my alcohol consumption and OH's concerns. She was very blunt with me and basically told me how worried they all were about me and also that I had to be honest with and trust them so they could try to help and support me.
Feel very humble now and so glad I choose to talk today, you forget how much people care if you let them get close.

Thanx for all the encouragment and Hi to GP and Miamoo this bunch are so lovely and caring :D

Winebox glad to see you are still there, hope Xmas was not to bad for you hun ((hugs))

Do you think I should try and just have 1 glass of wine, or not have any?

Hiya, well done in taking the first steps today :)

It all depends on how much you drink and if you drink daily. You need to be aware of whether you might be physically dependent (ie. panic attacks, shaking, sweating etc.), if this is the case then I would go for 1 today and probably for a few days to a week then stop. Give your body a chance to adjust. If you have had AFD's before with no problems then try and start your quit today. Don't knock yourself if it doesn't work, just work towards the goal.

Good luck and let us know what you decide :)

GP, MP hiding in the bushes with binoculars are the least of your worries, MP can be quite persuasive! :rotfl:

Good luck with the blog :)
