  • Hey all failed miserably at my AFD yesterday - pal up from south and then I went for a drink late on - stayed out til one, had no idea pubs stayed open that long, I know no one forced me, but had 4 drinks and would have had a lot more. Ended up in a very odd situation, all fine, but if I hadn't of ended up drinking would I be feeling so stupid today? Probably not.

New day - here we go again AFD1 - pal off the plane tonight and thankfully she doesnt drink.

    Hope everyone is good x

Hi all- don't worry shops or beat yourself up about the red wine, just brush yourself down and carry on trying- having some blips along the way is all part of the scheme of things for most of us.

Good to hear from you Jo, you know we all worry if you don't check in!!!

Best of luck tonight everyone, was thinking about the end of the year stuff- anyone got any new years resolutions they want to share? I bet you can guess what mine is........................no brainer really.
  • I have successfully managed to scramble onto a rolling wagon quite well this week. No booze since Sunday so today will be AFD5 for me. I have to say that it's at least 2 or 3 years since I've not drunk for more than 3 days at once. And I probably had flu or was ill at the time! I feel embarrassed typing that but also want to get myself to realise it's a big achievement.

I believe this thread has really helped me, even when I was trying and 'failing' I think I was taking things in and absorbing the wisdom from everyone on here - Thanks!

Fay and shoppy so sorry to hear things are difficult for you both at the moment. Don't give up, don't be too hard on yourselves. Tomorrow is another day.

My diet/healthy eating has meant some days I'm obsessed about food and other days booze. Bizarrely Day 3 booze was so hard to do without - the hardest this week by far but I sailed through yesterday. My next big temptations are meal out tonight, seeing friends tomorrow and then Sunday lunch. I may succumb on Sunday but I'm feeling positive about staying strong today and tomorrow.

One of the things I'm also sheepish to admit is that my skin is already looking clearer. So I guess my body is enjoying this last few days even if it's a struggle!
  • Afternoon All,
Well done WBF, you should be sooo proud of yourself
Fay/Shoppie, don't beat yourselves up, just start again! Half the battle is wanting to stop in the first place.
Esselt - I've got loads of NY resolutions - not having a drink, paying off all debts, losing a stone, running 5k in under 30 mins and that's only for the first 6 months!!
The first is the most important of course!!
Have a good weekend all xxx

Wannabe free- thats brilliant news, well done- you should feel very proud of yourself. I think the reason day 3 is tricky is that it takes about 48-72 hrs for booze to get completely out of your system so on day 3 most people not only start to feel better, but also start to get the cravings as bodies that are used to being full of wine etc start whining to their owner (you!) that they are being deprived. Day 3 was always my sticking point-I'd get all arrogant and think 'no I'm not an alcoholic, I feel great and I can give up' but actually that wasn't true, I was just kidding myself. Batton down the hatches- I'm afraid we're all in this for the long haul.
  • Thanks both of you! And that might explain more about why I have always crumbled before after 2 days. Somehow I used to tell myself that two was good and always give in Day 3. Not a good sign at all but I'm sure the knowledge will help.

If I go back my last period of 3 days or more without booze may well have been in hospital back in 2000. And less drinking after that until I was feeling better. But without having a crisis or getting so out of control I have put off facing up to it until recently.

    hi everyone

just been to feed the cats at my mums (as shes away) and she left me a bottle of wine to say thanks. dont know why but i brought it home with me and planned drinking it the whole way home. so had to log on and hvae a read through all the posts!!
fay, i ve been feeling like you and getting really frustrated, why do i have the issue with booze, why cant i just be like others and not think about it all the time, why are some days so much harder than others. where is that switch !!
funnily enough the second half of the week has been remarkably better than the first (which wasnt difficult) and i thought my cravings would be going but they havnt. and if i see one more person giving out FREE booze i swear i ll do something dramatic and you will see me in the news "crazy woman demonstrates at port and cheese taster in high street supermarket"!
hope every one is ok xx
    :D

  • Hey guys - sounds like lots of productive things being said, didnt realise it takes so long to get out your system - argh....reading through things - lots of thought provokign things, AFD tonight for me had a meeting today at work where I felt finally I had been heard, which has taken a bit of the stress off, and nice to hear someone say that I can't do everything.

And I do believe its a monster that needs feeding, give it one drink even when you aren't sure you really want one, just feeds the beast. Well that' how it feels. x Goodluck tonight - why are thank you's generally given as bottles?
I may join you on the front page Polariod....................
