Blimey, just took ages catching up with this thread and replying!

Suzukibabe, I totally get your situation. I was in serious debt and had a drink problem, they go hand in hand. Depressed about debt so drink to forget it, wake up from drinking and can't be bothered to deal with the debt. There is so much help on these boards you will never regret posting your SOA or reading others and getting tips. As I think it was ZTD said, ditch Chiltern and find the link at the top of the DFW board that mentions googling CCCS. CCCS are a charity and will do the same job for free. They are completely on your side and will take nothing from you, purely working for you to sort your stuff out. Good luck with the finance and the drinking, keep posting and let us know how you're going :)

Nearly-there, great list, it really helps to read other's perspectives on being sober. Funny how we are all so similar!

Leigh, you ask how you will find that confidence again... You had it before, but drinking has drowned it out, it's still there and I promise it won't take that long to find it again. You've just got to work at keeping it. When I say work, it's not that long once you've established sobriety, you've just got to look out for that one day when it bites you in the backside and you pick up....that's the worst thing anyone can do. You and your OH are doing so well, be honest with me now..do you actually feel you are missing out on anything? Cos I don't, but when I drink I seem to panic that I might miss something if I stop! It's just a matter of getting a few days out of the way and feel as though you're a few rungs up the ladder (or a few notches on the bedstead!), I don't want to ruin the days I mounted up and go back to number 1 again :) I totally agree with what Lewt said about the AA, back in 06 as I mentioned before I went 1:1 counselling through the council. They started up a group meeting which I said I'd go to, totally freaked me out at the time. I remember turning up looking at these people and I honestly thought before I walked in there that there would be a room full of 'homeless-looking' people or 'tramps' (if you know what I mean, and I in no way mean to offend). But they were normal, just like me  everything they came out with meant something to me. I've never connected with so many people in my life, I made so many friends. Don't push the idea away of group meetings, whether it be AA or elsewhere because a lot of stuff can be learnt from listening to other people.

ZTD :T to what you said!

ltm07, I so sympathise with you. It's really difficult when you are used to going out having a beer with mates, then when you decide that maybe you don't want to do it that night, but they do, you feel as though you should too. Let us know what you decide to do :)

Little Chicken, welcome to the thread

Sounds similar to me. I have not been going out so much recently - and getting just a tad squiffy rather than hammered. Went out this week, got totally hammered, can't remember anything, am sure I made an absolute idiot of myself. Now I'm totally depressed. I just cannot be sensible - especially when i'm out with certain people.
I know what you mean L.C. We all need to let our hair down now & again(not that i've got much left:rolleyes: ) but it's the after effects that I could do without. I do like to put my family first but at the same time we all need a social life with friends too. May give next week a miss though because OH & I are like passing ships at the moment, with her working nights & me mornings & also working six days a week,so I have suggested we go out next Sunday to the Wetherspoons in town for a few drinks & a bite to eat & take DD with us. I know if I go out next Saturday with my mates that I won't be in a fit state to go out Sunday too & it would be nice to spend the £40 that I have set aside for that instead. Brother having a 'lads day' at his house in a few weeks as his OH away for weekend so will be able to catch up with them then. That way it will be a much cheaper day & I can pace myself better,as we won't be moving from pub to pub like they will be next week.

    Nearly-there! :T:T:T Nice observations

ISOM Very useful definition and descriptions. I am sure that will help some people realize that they DO have a problem. No the needles don't hurt really. These are all just in the ears. Funnily enough the only ones that were uncomfortable were the ones in the liver line. That says something doesn't it!

ltm07 If you are having trouble when going out with certain mates, why not offer to be the designated driver - that way you won't be able to drink! (Sorry that assumes you drive - of course). Just a thought.

Little Chicken - Avoid those people. ;)

Hope everyone is having a dry one. 250 Hours now and feeling much much better. Can't wait for 250 days!

    Best wishes
    BHB
We used to do that a few years ag to be honest BHB,take it in turns to drive. The thing is next week the lads will be going in town, which is virtually on my doorstep! As I say it will only be a couple of weeks before my Brother has a lads day,so not going out next week won't be too bad.

I need a stiff kick up the bum! :o

I was working last night and one of my patients gave me two, 284ml bottles of Stella  I didn't want to offend her so took it. I was going to put them away for the next party I was invited to, but put them in the fridge and popped back out to work. I finished work at about 9.15 and at home my BF said he had already had 3 cans of 'whatever' and could he have the Stella.:o
I know i should have been strong and say no but he is really trying to get off the stuff and I don't want to be too hard on him, and send him up the wrong route. To cut long story short...I had the other one and now I'm so angry with myself for being so weak. For goodness sake, what is wrong with me, that I can't even say no for a week?!

I'm off now to prep. the lunch, and I'm in work this evening again. But will catch up with you lovely peeps later. Sorry for letting you down too. x:o
