    Sounds complicated. :think: The amount of froth must depend on how fizzy the pop is. I expect there's a formula for this.

    oddly enough, I did my dissertation on this very subject for my...errr...science(?) degree..... 'The properties of pop and its relative correlation to ice cream'

    basically it is

    F = pg2 /i -(t *-1) * d

    where
    F = quantity of froth

    p = flavour of pop
    g = gap between top of glass and rested liquid having first poured pop and froth in to glass to top
    i = quantity of ice cream
    t = temperature of ice cream
    and
    d = depth to which ice cream is poked.

    Quite simply really. Apply this formula each time and you will have an accurate measurement of predicted coke float froth, in cubic cm

    Thanks Lurky! Using that formula I can be confident that I will use the correct amount of fizzy pop and icecream to make sure I don't end up with a frothy mess all over the kitchen!:rotfl:

    Ah, but Lurky, you've forgotten one VERY important point.

    It also depends very much on the fizziness of the pop, ie, if it's newly opened or a day or so old. Brand new pop can have the tendency to produce an explosion of foam which makes an amazing mess. It's like one of those science experiments you see on the telly where frothy stuff just keeps on producing, it doesn't stop. This in turn makes you go blue in the face when trying to suck all the pop up through the straw to limit mess.

    Oh booger, forgot the pop when I was out, really want an ICF now :(

    Bis, I know you've told us before, but how long have you stopped drinking for now? You still think about it?? That's really doesnt make me feel good! :eek: I hope you soon get to the point where you no longer think of it :)

    14 months now....most day there is a small battle in my head - some days it last longer than others...I won't make out that it's all plain sailing after a certain point...it isn't...that's where the long-term strategies come in...will I no longer think of it? don't know....perhaps it will be a distant memory but in my opinion there is no cure as such...just ways of getting by and doing what's best for you.

    for me that's not touching a drop at all and that suits me fine....

    keep up the good work everyone.

    no - you see. That's the clever part. When you first pour the pop in to the glass, it froths up. When you get to the top of the glass, you wait for the first bit of froth to go down before you top up, don't you? The gap between top of the glass and top of the resting pop is 'g' in the formula, indicating exactlty how fresh or frothy said pop is..... :D

    :rotfl:

    edit : errr jo - I really should point out that our little friend's posts have been deleted..... meaning YOU have the 3000th post. What were you saying?

    Well done all round Lurkio esp last post!! No, esp nearly-3-days AF. No, the last post, brilliant.

    Much as I would love to join in the intellectual discussion I am in the lonely position of being (apparently) the only person in the world who can't stand ice-cream floats. In pop anyway. However, Rose, a scoop in a strong black coffee sounds an excellent idea.

    Jo keep going! Superb!!

    I haven't exactly broken my resolve re keeping the recycling bin empty but feel like a bit of a cheat (and who am I cheating? myself) cos have been for a pub lunch so had 2 glasses (mind you, standard not large which is resolve no.2). Result though, DD has stayed at the pub all afternoon to play with their son - peace & quiet!

    Not sure how long I am gonna last this month, we are gong on The Annual Holiday next week on the boat & it's a bit like trying to start a diet the week before Xmas, a niggling "might as well not bother now & just start when we get back" is...niggling. And it's my birthday while we are away. Keep trying to tell myself every little helps but I don't shop in Asda anyway. Still, must remember my neighbour will be doing my recycling bin for me while I am away (still newspapers!) & wouldn't HE be surprised to find it empty of glass - sound carries very easily round this village & I'm sure everyone must hear half a ton of wine bottles going in the lorry every fortnight & the fact there's a mayo jar on top fools nobody.

    Ho hum - must do some proper work on the PC whilst the puppy in my pocket fiend is out!

    Have I?? Woohoo!!!!!

    Errm, right back to the important stuff. Yes Lurky, I'm thinking as you actually took a degree in pop/ice cream logistic'ity then you, my friend, know much more than me. I shall get some pop at the shop later and try your formula and check out your estimations.
