I'm actually reeaaally embarrassed about it - I have a grazed hand, a massive bruise on my knee, I've jolted my back and broken 2 nails! OK, the injuries could be worse - but this was in the street!!

dont stress about that in Scotland we wouldve thought you a local

So - I am on day three and have awoken feeling slightly better with only a mildly raging headache not a "bang my head against the wall" headache. Bismark - I am relying on you to be correct and that I wil come back rebuilt - Better than I was before. Better, stronger, faster :D

    that's asking a lot! :rotfl:

400 days on and I'm kind of rebuilt....my skin's better - I sleep better and I don't have anything like as many domestics....I can drive at a moment's notice and will live longer and be more help to my children...

Every so often I reflect that this is some kind of resurrection....it helps me deal with temptations that still come my way....pre and post Bismarck are different people - they were similar but had different needs. New Bismarck knows better and is working towards a more contented life. Old Bismarck was a dead man walking.

For what it's worth, the process has helped me re-assess fear. I know here I was and how scary it was and when I look back now it's hard to believe the road I've followed...looking back, it's far easier than it seemed at the time.

Then it was a mass of things to untangle and address and I felt I was going mad trying to unpick it all...but., little by little, I changed direction....

    take care everyone.

  • Oh yes pleeeaassee - I'm just at the start of my AFD's so this would be a massive help - and I promise to pass it on!

Hi all, hope you're all well.

Well done to those still on that wagon and hugs for those who are struggling.

I haven't posted much as I thought you'd all be a bit bored if I came on and just said hello again but I've been popping in every now and then.

I'm doing quite well I think, 3 drinking days out of 11 now and even then I've kept to my 1 litre cider or lager. I realised today that's 16 units altogether so I'm actually within the drinking guidelines now:j (although probably still over on the daily limit boooo!). Anyway, not bad compared to the 50 odd units a week I used to do:o .

Just wondered for those of you that are abstinate (sorry I can't keep track of names, probably a consequence of the 50 units a week;) ) are there any particular things that worked for you in beating cravings and deflecting you from drinking? I'd certainly find it useful to know if you wouldn't mind sharing.

Well, better get to my tescos order now but I'll pop back from time to time, have a great evening everyone.

Hi All, Just checking in and everyone is so positive today.

Sparkley- my sis did that diet and she lost loads and felt great, but she did have headaches for the first few days and her skin erupted a bit but then that went and she was so full of energy and looks so healthy- she lost over half a stone the first week then about 4-5 lbs a week after that- she still has 2 juice meals a day and then a normal meal with the family in the evening- its strict but it really works-good luck!!!!

Alisong, although I take Campral now for cravings (and this really works for me- I just don't think about a drink, when before I used to think about drink pretty much the whole time) I also found making sure I started the day with a really sweet drink, like honey/lemon or decaf coffee (I found proper coffee made me anxious and a bit panicky at the beginning, and it didn't help with sleeping either)) with sugar helped-your bodies used to drinking all that empty sugar calories in alcohol and keeping that at bay really helps. Also Bismarks advice earlier in the thread is spot on- get yourself good vitamins (loads of Vit B), eat as much healthy stuff as you
can and just try and get yourself physically and mentally fit again- I find if I do this I am just stronger generally and can appreciate how good it feels to be healthy again, with cognitive and physical energy and a sence of humour instead of a snarling tired wreck!!! If you think of how you have been poisoning yourself all this time, it will take time to feel better but you'd be surprised how in just a couple of months everything is just clear, you are happier and you'll feel much more able to cope with everything.

Jo- sorry to hear you and OH have had 'the conversation'- thats a tough one, for both of you- my family just watched me go downhill and felt helpless and angry with me, I'm only really finding out now what an awful time they went through- they wanted to help but just felt powerless as I just didn't seem to be capable of helping myself. Jo you seem so positive at the moment...but you need to do it for yourself, and you can.

Thanks for the messages about our local 'murder'- everyones shocked and stunned- just a bunch of local young people in a beach shelter and lots and lots of beer and things just went horribly wrong- they are nice kids really, I know nearly all of them and their parents- just dreadful.

Hope everyone is OK and abstaining/battling on- bye Jackie

    ha!

beating the cravings...do something different....study something new and challenging, play computer games, learn a musical instrument, drink a hot drink.....

they're all defences in one way or another.....one of the biggest things for me was to create a reflex to stop the first drink - at least long enough to start my brain going properly about the reasons why I wasn't drinking.

To start with I drank loads of coffee and coke - not great but better than the alternative....I could work on that later.

Don't be too hard on yourself and try and be miss perfect.....it just makes it hell and unachieveable. Do the biggest change that you need to and let yourself settle in and be comfortable with that before choosing your next target.

Slowly but surely is the way but I was definitely an all-or-nothing person...I can't relate to the cutting down gradually..

    gotta go, take care.
