  • Morning chaps, bad weekend this weekend - met friends for a lunch time drink which turned into an all day session but I definately paid for it on Sunday! I have bought two bottles of wine and six cans of beer and that has got to last me until Friday

Might sound a lot but as I can usually manage four bottles of wine and six cans of beer in that time I think I've made a fair dent in my allowance.

.....at this rate I may be sober for Christmas!

One tip for anybody who finds themselves craving, somebody said to me to have something sweet like hot chocolate instead. I think there is something in it as a family friend who is an ex alcoholic now gets through a big bar of galaxy a day....I'm not sure I could manage all that chocolate.....honest ; )

off to check my veg and resist the temptation to plant them out as the weather is still a bit up and down....

    Hi All

    Been away for a bit..exercising self-discipline:D

And I'm pleased to say that the new tactics are working. Last week....out 3 nights, one glass of wine each night only. In two nights...none. Saturday...well back to my usual habits.. .....but consumed over a 6 hour period.

So last week's tally one bottle on one day, one glass on each of 3 days = 1/2 bottle and 3 days..clear!!:j

    This week so far..on target!!! :j :j

Feeling much better, more in control and now have better determination & will power.

Thanks Mollypolly and congratulations..you have been an inspiration.

Hi Elantan..please come out of the corner even if you are not ready act yet!

To everyone else....marvellous..this thread is great isn;t it??!!...well done everyone and keep with it!!

    Hugs to all

Su UU can I just ask, are you a moderator  or are you just on the thread to support, I just wondered cos reading back through the thread you don't mention you drink? (not being funny just curious!?):D

    Hi shopaholictiedtheknot,

No problem with wondering and although I've moderated on other Forums, I don't on this one. You're right, I don't drink, don't even touch the stuff for 2 reasons. A) I take pills which don't go with the drink (not after 1/2 pint of very weak shandy ayway!) B) My mum used to drink a fair amount and when I was young it was awful and frightening to see her when she really had 'had enough. So, if I can help anyone by support, here I am!

I also used to smoke and it worried me sick at all the possible illnesses that I could be laying myself open to, so after many years of trying and failing I cut the ciggies down, then when down to 2 a day I just knew I could do it....and I DID!!!!! That was 9 years ago now and I'm so proud of my achievement!

So that's why I come on here supporting you all as well as on the "Giving up smoking" thread and if it helps one or two of you to quit and spare yourselves and your little ones the worries then I love to do so! Having said that - I am NOT one of those 'holier than though' types I promise, I of all people know just how hard it is to give the ciggies up and from what you're all saying I realise just how hard, possibly harder it is with alcohol. So if you're ok with me being here then I'm happy to be, but please just say if anyone isn't comfortable with it.

Meanwhile, best wishes and hugs to you ALL!

BTW. Many congratulations Keep it up Mollypolly and try your best Jo (how about lying on the couch with a relaxation tape, they're marvellous). Try the chocolate cabbagegrower! If it works then that's what counts. Well done Wol2, you're on your way!!!

  • Hi everyone

SueUU I have no probs at all with you being here, as I said just being nosy really!:D

I really wish I could find some willpower from somewhere, DH met me at the sunbeds after work yesterday and then suggested wine and a dvd and I succumbed :o Oh dear drank the whole bottle of white too! I am going to really try now and do tonight and Thursday without though! (promise)

I think I have decided to go 'cold turkey' when I get back from my hols - I am back on Sunday 30th March so will start on Monday I am going to need all the help I can get, I am so determined though, I really want to quit the evil habit I am sooooo sick of feeling rough in the mornings and coping with the guilt that washes over me!

PS Thanks to everyone on here, it is great having a place to 'confess' and people who understand to listen to me

Hi everyone, have been ok since the weekend, no wine in the house and don't get paid until next week so no money to buy any! I definitely miss coming home, pouring a glass and sipping while I'm cooking then another glass while I'm eating my dinner. But it's just habit and apparently it takes 12 weeks to break a habit/make a new one...so, just need to keep at it. This thread is good because I fear having to put down my consumption in writing, and that just scares me...

  • Hi Sue-UU, I'm pleased you're here action-smiley-033.gif- my other vice is smoking and I have been to the Docs today and got an appointment for one-to-one counselling on the 2nd April.....I've tried quitting a bjillion times, a few times fairly successfully, but I have now reached the point where I can't even be bothered to try because I know I will fail and I tell myself that I didn't want to quit and that's why I fail. (I was too embarassed to admit that I also drink too much and can I have some help with that too!)

I feel I may have an addictive personality rolleyes.gif !

I will avoid the chocolate...........a nice bit of fruit instead of fags and booze - honest gov...

  • ps - did drink wine last night but I didn't finish the bottle, in fact a whole glass went down the sink because I was drinking it for the sake of it and not because I wanted it.

I think I'm taking the flylady route - baby steps!
