interesting....so is a dry drunk "just" abstaining?

    this is getting complicated!

I had detox in 2006 and abstained for 30 days, I was so down and miserable. The fact that I wasn't drinking didn't make me feel better, I was just craving and thinking about drinking 24/7. I KNEW that it wasn't going to last, and it didn't.

I then quit a couple of months later and got to 4 months, I was proud, happy and not craving at all....until I boogered it up :o

    Congrats AB! :T

I messed it up because I had a very stressful day (it was xmas eve), I'd become complacent and seemed to think as it was xmas eve I was missing out on summat..

In my defence :o I had no intention of continuing to drink the next day, but obviously it was xmas day and definately a day to celebrate, ummm, then boxing day, then nothing till new years eve. Obviously needed to celebrate then, oh and new years day...by Jan 2nd it had all gone out the window and here we are

Continue feeling positive and will be a good experience.

I'm still back on day 1 trying to pick up the courage to start the diazepam

Howdy pardners, hope everyone's feeling well. Still no drink consumed (day 11), and really not bothered, amazingly enough.

Jo the dry drunk comment resonated with me, having stopped drinking several times before I was definitely miserable, but this time I feel ..well, indifferent. Don't know what the difference is this time. BTW, good luck with the diazepam, I've heard it does help if taken for a short period.

Well went to the game with mate but decided to walk to the ground instead of driving, it was my mate who suggested it as we didn't fancy being stuck in traffic in the blazing sun after the game. Would rather not talk about the game itself as the performance of the players was absolutely pathetic & an insult to all the loyal fans who have stumped up their hard earned cash throughout the season, just glad I didn't pay too! Anyway I ended up having 3 pints & 1 bottle of lager & am pleased to say that I made it back home in the nick of time for my Sunday dinner at 6pm! OH was pleased with me as in the past I have told her that I will be back for tea & polled in a couple of hours late & understandably she wouldn't be happy with me at all! Had 2 more cans when I got in so I guess that I did have quite a bit to drink but I am not making excuses here,as I said before I used to get slaughtered on a match day so it does show how I have managed to cut down & control my intake. On my 2nd can of the night & there is one each left for OH & I. If we drink them then there's no more beer in the house til Friday so I won't have a beer til then. All the best to you all, been a bit busy today painting the garden fence & tidying the garden,so haven't had chance to catch up on all your posts. All the best to you all & stay strong, will be back on tomorrow.
Hi all, not had much chance to get on here the last couple of days, but will try to grab an hour later to catch up with your posts. OH & I ended up sharing a can on Wednesday,so she kindly left one for me to drink last night! No more beer in the house til we go shopping Friday & OH working tonight & tomorrow night. This makes it so much easier for me when there's no beer in the house to be honest. Going to wedding do on Saturday night which we are looking forward to. Will make sure I pace myself though so I don't end up getting hammered! Off to pick DD up from school now, all the best to you all!

    Ummmm... quick question....

Is it normal to be irascible (sp?), or have I just got annoying kids? :o

I am v v irascible (think sp ok?) with 8-yr-old, catch phrase "no wonder I drink", must change that to "picked a hell of a day to give up drinking" a la "Airplane" flim
