We are a family of 6 and I have the Cuisinart Slow Cooker, Cook & Hold CSC-650U which has a 6.5 Litre ceramic cooking pot. It has a 1 to 8-hour timer but you don't have to use the timer if you don't want to. It has 3 settings (low, high and warm) and automatically switches to 'warm' when the cooking time has ended when the timer is used. It comes with a cooking rack that takes ramekins or other bakeware. It can also be cleaned in the dishwasher. We got this one a few months ago as it seemed well built and not flimsy like some other models and looks good on the worktop. It was more expensive then others but it comes with a 5 year guarantee. I've been very happy with it and it holds a meal for 6 plus extra to be frozen for another day. I got it from John Lewis but can be bought at other online stores. Here's the link if you want to take a look. http://www.johnlewis.com/230223048/Product.aspx . Which ever one you end up getting, you will probably need a 6.5ltr one for 6 people. They are brillant and I use mine at least a couple of times a week. Good Luck!:j

Ditto (except there are 5 of us). I love that I can cook a leg of lamb with veg in one pot!

I'm off to buy this one today, there's 5 of us and I'm looking forward to having left overs to freeze. Used to have a 3.5 which broke and it was enough (then) for 2 adults and 3 kids (2 kids were small), they are all bigger now so need bigger one!

Are there any great sites for slow cooker recipes out there. I finally bought one but have no idea what I should be throwing in it and how to go about it! Thanks all in advance :)

  • Does anyone know if I can fit a chicken and other joints in a Cuisinart Cook and Hold 3.8L. There is only the 2 of us and I think the 6.5l is way too big

    Cheers

if it helps i have an oval 4.5 slow cooker. and i can get a 2.4kg chicken in mine with ease, but don't think i could get a bigger one in..

I find from a chicekn this size it will serve us 3 meals( depending on the type of meals ) for a family of 2 adults and 3 children age 5 and under.
