Covered beef in flour and fried that off to brown it (do I really need to do this?)
Think it's up to personal preference, I'm one for less washing up and effort so I don't tend to pre seal any meat when using the SC. I've tried with and without and to my taste it wasn't any different. But looks wise it could be off putting when in a light coloured sauce. When using tomato based recipes I've not noticed a difference in colour of meat at all. I've done this with frozen sausages, mince and chicken.
I chuck it all in from frozen but do tend to leave on slow for 10-12 hours and have had no complaints.0 -

It's gone! I live in a bloc of flats and the bin men took it away this morning!
So, any advice on buying a new, large slow cooker?
I've read the comments above about the different temperatures between my two Morphy Richards Slow cookers. I don't agree that it's about levels of quantity or liquid. I have had a batch of soup spread between the two cookers, same ingredients, both filled to the same level near the top. The larger cooker was bubbling and boiling away with the contents stuck to the sides and the smaller one was just hot with no simmering at all.
Any suggestions about a new larger model with a lower cooking temp?0 -
Hi,
Going to purchase a new slow cooker over the next few days. Any suggestions for a larger model (around 6 litres) that still cooks rather slowly would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi, Just found the site and wondered if anyone can help. I have a very old SC. It is just a brown crock with lid that plugs in directly. I think it is a tower and it has a switch that is either up or down. My problem is we keep it in our folding camper and the markes that showed high and low power have come off. Just wondered if anyone had a similar model and could advise? Thank (sorry if I've posted in the wrong section ;-) )0

Just start cooking with it. You will soon see which position is the high one and which is the low one by the amount of activity in the SC!I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0
