We have a 1.5l one for two adults and that's plenty (often have leftovers) so I would have thought 3.5l would be plenty big enough.

I use a 3.5 litre one for 2 adults and 3 small children. There isn't usually anything left over! I think to some extent it depends on the recipe you are doing. Some are complete one pot meals with potatoes/rice included, and they do take up quite a lot of room in the pot and it gets quite full. Other recipes don't take up as much space - I did turkey chunks in a cream sauce last night which didn't take up as much room, but then I cooked rice separately to serve with it.
I do quite like doing the complete 'one pot' meals in my slow cooker, so as the children get bigger, I may well opt to get a bigger one as well.

Hello-its just me and my partner and 4 dogs and we have the massive 6L one. I find its versatile as I can easily fit big items in it like a chicken or lamb shoulder but when i cook much smaller amounts it seems none the worse for it even though the bowl is nowhere near full. It probably uses more energy though to cook in the bigger pot so not terribly efficient if not full..The butcher often gives me bones for the dogs which i make into a stew for them with barley, lentils and veg-I need the big pot to fit the bones in..

    Hi,
there are just the two of us and we have the 6.5 litre one,
i always have loads left over to freeze and i also cook large joints of meat and whole large chickens in it.
The big one suits us and i wouldn`t be able to cook the big stuff in a smaller one so it`s best for us but everyone is different.
Would you want to be able to cook extra to freeze or cook large joints in it?
if so i would go with the big one, if not and it`s only food for one day go with the smaller one.

Tonight I had a sausage supper which included browned sausages, mushrooms, onions, baked beans and thinly sliced potatoes with a bit of water. Don't think you need anything else with that.

If I do a casserole, I add sliced potatoes, and sliced carrots, mushrooms, etc and then it's a meal in itself. You can add an extra portion of veg but it's usually enough without.

You can also do rice dishes with veggies, and again, then you don't need anything else.

  • Hi,
My old Hinari Lifestyle slow cooker has died a death, not helped by me dismantling it to try and fix it!!
I need a new one, has anone got any recomendations or seen any good offers recently? - either in shops or online? I do use my SC quite a lot, but don't want to spend too much!
    thanks in advance,
