    Hi Jomo,

I have a Morphy Richards 6.5ltr and would definitely recommend it. It is enormous though.

There's an earlier thread on which slow cooker to buy so I've added your thread to it to keep all the suggestions together.

i am wanting to get my first slowcooker and not sure which is the best one to get i have to feed a family of 4 so do i need 3.5ltr or 6.5ltr and are they pretty much all the same or is it worth paying for a 'brand' name rather than a cheapy argos one??

    Hi

I'm not sure what makes are on offer at the moment but I've had mine for years and I'd say go for the bigger one (you can always half fill or freeze the extra but you can't fit more in a smaller one)

    My feelings entirely!

Had a 5 litre one until recently - then managed to get a 6.5 litre (lovely son-in-law's staff discount pressie for me :D) - and there's only TWO of us! It's now costing me almost twice as much to fill the darn thing BUT there's lots of stuff going into the freezer in one/two serving portions plus smaller amounts going into bags for jacket spud toppings :money: .

I have just replaced my 15 yr old slow cooker with a new Morphy Richards 6.5l one. There are only 3 of us but now I can batch cook which I couldn't really do before.

I had a good look round before I bought it and found it in TJ hughes for only £20. I've use it 3 times in the last week and it's been fantastic.

The Morphy Richards 6.5 litre has a loyal following

We have an older thread on which SC to buy so I'll add this one to that.

I agree with the oval shape, I have a 3.5L Stainless steel, with black crock oval one, left my SC on while out at work for years with np. The reason I avoided the 6.5L was just a space issue. Look at TJ Hughes they have some good prices from time to time.

Sorry to put a spanner in the works but I am a slow cooker fan, but hate my Morphy Richards 6.5 litre model. I also have the smaller MR model, I believe it was 3.5 litres and love it. I only trated myself the the 6.5 version because I wanted to cook larger cuts of meat and generally bigger portions.

The problem I have is that the 6.5 version gets too hot. It's ridiculous! I now use my 3.5 version still for most things and then only use the larger one when I am at home.

Even on low, the 6.5 makes sauces rapidly bubble up after only a few hours. I thought there was a fault with mine until I looked on the Amazon website and read the reviews and realised that others had the same problem. I wish now that I had taken mine back and exchanged it for a different brand but same size when I could of.

I tend to agree. I have a big one (which I have had for about 15yrs) and a small one that came from my mother in law. Neither is a brand name and both work prefectly. Nowadays I tend to use the small one (which has a glass lid which is really useful) for the three of us. It is so much more convenient to store and heats up a lot quicker.
We tend to use our slow cooker with a cook in sauce. I always thaw the meat in the microwave first to speed things up and add sliced onions, mushrooms, celery etc - it's a really easy and tasty way of getting your 'five a day'.
Set it and forget it until mealtime when you just remove the bowl, give it a stir and put it on the table.
