Wendy have you tried taking teh dough out of the BM and baking it in the oven in a normal loaf tin? That might solve the problem, but I dont profess to know anything about BM's, just what Ive read on the OS board.

    What cookies are you making?
  • Good tip about the soda crystals thanks. I will have a look for them, Calgon is so expensive.

I usually buy the cheap Tesco Pizzas, they were 88p each but noticed this week they have go up to 1.05. Will have a look in T next time to see if the home made will be better.

If this loaf doesnt work I may have to do that. Looked into making rolls but seemed to much hassle. Im not a great cook!

The cookies are very basic ones taken from a recipe book my DD2 got in a cookie making kit. Just butter, sugar, egg and flour cant go wrong really. OH said to add a touch of lemon juice to the mix so might try that today.

Hi Wendy, you see to be really organised today. I'm still in my pyjamas but I have made the beds and got some washing in the machine. I' trying to get the enthusiasm to do the ironing.

Keep plodding with the Amazon, I sold another 4 last night. The way it's going I'm going to end up with bookshelves and no books. I know I wanted to declutter but that's taking it a bit far!!!

    re. pizzas!

i use value pitta breads to make pizzas. using tomato puree as the base. add grated cheese and whatever toppings you like - that way you can use different toppings/leftovers

also, i find if i take the pittas from the freezer and add all the above whilst still frozen, after 10 mins in the oven they come out just right x
  • Ohh that sounds good and easy too. Thanks firesidemaid.

GR Well two out of three kids bathed but me still not dressed and sat in dressing gown so better get off here for a bit and get moving. Ref Books how about just buying cheap ones at car boot sales and flogging em on Amazon when done?

girls! MAKE pizza from scratch! I use my BM to do the dough & freeze half - much nicer & cheaper than buying bases! Good that washing machine sorted. Can you just ask the shop not to have a tab so that OH has to pay cash when he goes! Keep plodding - but also make some time for a bit of fun in there eh! :)

  • Good news the Tesco shop came in a £44.40 so have £70 left. Will aim lower. Joined the Grocery Challenge looks like a great thread.

Bread cooked but I think it has stuck again just waiting for it to cool a bit. Looks and smells great.

Right now to update my to do list post

Ooh well done on the Tesco shop, thats quite a way under budget!
Hope your bread turns out better this time. Im in the process of baking bread rolls at the mo, just on here while waiting for the dough to rise. I dont find it much hassle, just grab a big knife and cut the dough into 12. Then again I havent made bread to compare!
Pizza dough is on my list of things to try but never got round to it. I think HM dough would be more filling too so you may get away with making less.
The pitta idea sounds fab, we do something similar for lunch by putting the tomato and cheese inside, then splatting them in the sandwich toaster.

 as to why money is being spent on a car - if my maths is correct £2,230 p.a. plus petrol:confused: . Particularly as you have a work car. Spotted the post in which you mention O.H. wouldnt be happy if you got rid of it - but still confused (particularly as I thought I spotted that its a present from your mother - in other words "your" car, not "our" car).
  • Not sure where the 2,230 per annum adds up

    £180 tax
    £150 mot and service
    £300 repair budget
£30 my personal petrol in work car usually lower = £360 a year
    £600 guesstimated insurance
£1590 unless you are including OH petrol which he pays for himself.

Your are right though it is a lot to spend. OH cant drive my car at the mo he will be able to drive the on order due May. Hopefully then he wont rely on the second car as much and I can talk him into downgrading. He has the kids full time and I can work late/long hours so I dont think we could cope easily without both. I know we could and have done. Only had a car in the family for 2 1/2 years now.

The other thing is we have spent alot on the car last year and know what if anything needs doing. If we sell and go cheaper god knows what unknown problems we could end up with. On top I should give Mum back the money if we sell.

Im hoping to be able to stretch the budget to be able to cope.
