Thanks KP, sorry didn't get chance to reply last night. Yeah it is quite surprising how much overtime there is at our place at the moment, considering the new changes brought in by the company was supposed to cut it down drastically! I'm not complaining though & will keep doing it while it's there:D . I also feel that I have struck the right balance regarding overtime & am only doing as much as I feel comfortable with( don't know if you remember but earlier in the year I was doing so many hours that it ended up stressing me out to the point where I felt that all we seemed to be doing was working, eating, sleeping & trying to clear as much debt as possible, only to not be enjoying life at the same time). At the time we (mainly me) wanted to consolidate but we stuck at the DFW journey & managed to ride the storm & things are now starting to slowly sort themselves out. The big difference has definately been OH picking up extra shifts so we have been able to allow ourselves a few more treats, whilst at the same time clearing our debts, slowly but surely. I guess we are both very lucky, especially in the current climate, that we can still pick up extra hours at work if we need/want to. The whole DFW thing has taught us not to be complacent though so if the overtime does sooner or later get cut down then through the help of Martin & you good people, we feel that we will be able to cope. I guess that you're on your hols now so when you do read this I hope that you have all had a fantastic holiday & DD1 hasn't added anymore bumps to her collection:D ! All the best & chat again soon!!

  • Holiday diary:

Sat 23rd. Left an hour late at 9 and after filling up with petrol and picking up sleeping bag left Banbury at 9.30 for 4 hour trip plus stopping time. Hit busy traffic and got a mile from site at 4 ish but managed to hit something to burst my trye. OH tryed to change but carp tools provided so RAC called out. Thankfully very quick and got to campsite at 5 in the rain. Put the tent up in rain with some help from fellow campers (we looked like newbies it was that bad!). Had Mc D on way down so kids had cereal for dinner.

Sunday: Tired from Sat so just went to local town where we overspent and than since it was my birthday I splashed out on a cavery. Weather still not great. Wondered why we did camping and told OH I wanted to give up but he said too much invested in camping gear (me thinking ever heard of ebay!). Opened my two birthday cards and got £20 debenhams vouchers from Mum so can use that towards make up needed or by from boots and use vouchers for xmas presents. OH brought me a nicer dicer for my birthday (on sale in wollies). Not brave enough to use on holds so looking forward to trying that out this week.

Monday - Thursday weather didnt improve but mood did. Put kitchen tent up and cooked for a few days and spends not too bad. Found a few places to visit and used hald tesco vouchers on the BIG sheep. Which wasnt too bad actually.

Friday - hit the beach, kids had a great time although OH bored. Good day. Was due to go out to daredavil show but talked the kids into staying on site and getting back to tent early to start packing. Whimped out and put kitchen tent down and paid for dinner. Gave some sweete to campers who helped us on Sat. One of the extentions gave up and fridge defrosted. Thankfully not much lost. TIG - Fridge is excellent by the way a great buy.

Sat - put a damp muddy tent down and somehow fitted all the stuff back in the car. We had space going down!! Traveled the 2 hours to Yoevil (took 3 hours) to visit Fleet Air Museum for DS using last of tesco vouchers. OK but a bit boring really. Then drove the 2 1/2 hours home to get back for 6pm.

Found in my eagerness to save electric when leaving I had unplugged the friger freezer so all food ruined and nothing to cook just a smelly freezer to clean out. Bonus is I no longer need to defrost it! Ended up ordering pizza at £23 cause neither OH or I could face driving anywhere.

TODAY - Worked out we spent £650    . OD is up to £239 and I have £757 due out and a possible £384 due in. Still to add on DS birthday, 2 nephews birthdays, dentist costs even with reclaim (DD2 teeth playing up so really need to get done ASAP), Groceries and other general spends.

  • Its great to see so many approaches to cut down on wages, for someone like me who spends so much money irresponsibly this topic is necessary to have a clear picture.  I and my husband always prefer to have one or two cheap weekends away instead to cover.
