I don't think so but a simple telephone call, on the Free number should confirm this.

This is a waste of time it's more useful talking to a brick wall! 'Phoning the London number, in this case and in my opinion, would get a better result.

Thanks for advice "Oldagetraveller" I will try and pursue on the London phone number. I agree with you the free number is just a "fobbing off agent" and gets you nowhere but frustrated!

  • kt - The operator in London might also try and put you off, "no one available" "the line is busy" etc., but insist on a transfer to the Hisave department. If you're with 18866 or similar a long wait to be connected is only costing 3p anyway!

I take note of the points above about not using the FreePhone number 080 81 31 41 51 and using the London, Knightsbridge number 020 7201 1000 instead but surely either operator is going to transfer a caller through to the HiSave team when requested anyhow?

If that is the case, about being transferred to the HiSave team, whichever one you use, why not save some money and use the FreePhone number?

On another matter, but staying with the topic of telephone numbers.....

After logging in to my HiSave account, I decided to check my personal telephone numbers(BT land line and mobile numbers).

Just like they have omitted the first zero from by Linked Account number I see they have also omitted the first zeros from both of my telephone numbers, eg, '01204 ******' has been changed to '1204 ******'.

Anyhow, I put these zeros back in. It says on the web page how this apparently takes three days to take effect. Extraordinary!

Whilst typing this, I'm wondering if their Indian call centre staff will still be able to telephone me? When calling the UK from abroad one misses out the first zero.

Oh, and their FreePhone number at the top of my post. The one that starts '08 08' . This being a Free number, shouldn't this start with '0800' ?

Is this why their staff haven't been calling people back?

ie, The numbers for personal details on the customer account pages are missing zeros and simply don't work? Then ICICI staff think it's the customer who has put the wrong number in - but it's actually their software that is knocking out the first zero for the customer's phone number.

Both 0800 and 0808 are freephone from what I know.

Also, if you call the freephone number, they will not be able to transfer you to the branch, so you're better off calling the branch directly thro' 18866

0800 & 0808 are both freephone numbers from a landline as is 0500

    Thanks guys. :)

I bow humbly to your greater knowledge. ;)
  • ICICI must surely be the worst bank in the UK! My problem (after the initial problems experienced by most people) was the inability to log in. Three Emails did not attract a reply. My second phone call to support elicited a promise to find out the problem and ring me back. My last chat forum posting reached this point. The I tried another very critical Email. This was replied to saying "contact the help line!!! A glutton for punishment I rang them again yesterday. I pointed out my experiences, that I was concerned about the fate of my savings and that if I did not receive help immediately I would contact both the Indian Embassy and the FSA to investigate their operations. I was assured that they would ring me by the end of the day with the answer. Do I need to tell you what happened? Of course, NOTHING. Well, I shall now contact the two organisations. I would strongly recommend - as I shall myself if I can actually access my account - that other account holders think about getting out. After all, with this level of inefficiency, anything could happen to our money.

OK HERE'S A VERY BIG QUESTION:

Has anyone on here actually EVER been rung back by ANYONE at ICICI Bank?
