£!20K? Wouldn't that would get you something OK in Dagenham? 1st property is always going to be modest.....don't go near NEW BUILDS....post on here on a sep thread *Title* ; New Build flat? and see the responce.

In Dagenham I could get a 2 bed flat above Corals for £120,000! Would be handy for my matched betting! :rotfl:

I know first time buyers look too many rungs up the ladder when buying, thinking they can have their dream home straight away, but it that type of property just ain't me. Oooh how snobby did that sound? :rotfl:

I like new builds. :o They're all new and stuff. :)

Although I do like a proper wall I can drill stuff to. :j

Ooooops just went on RM and you are right...few ex LA 1 beds.....
    *shocked* prices in Dagenham:eek: ..

Save (boooring I know...but you know it's the right advice and wait. House share is a good living experience plus you could move nearer to London (if that's where you work?)

Told ya! Did you see the one above Coral though? There is a Dixy chicken 2 doors away and a pub about 12 metres away! :T

The rent doesn't come off what you owe. You can buy more chunks as and when you can afford it. I'm buying 50% of mine, but whacking down a bigger deposit so I have a smaller mortgage, and can afford to still have a life, and save a bit toward the next chunk.

    Essex boy :eek::eek:

So I pay a mortgage and rent, then have to come up with more money?

As and when you buy more %, does the rent go down?

I'm a cockney essex boy. :D And not I don't wear Reebok classics. Anymore. :p

Yes, but your mortgage is much littler. My 50% only comes to £85k, so only getting a mortgage for £70k, so that combined with the rent makes my outgoings much less than if I'd tried to buy a whole place myself (about £300p/m). And yes, the rent goes down as you buy more.

I'm a posh Hampshire girlie. ;) I don't know what Reebok classics are.

SS....You are going to have to post "I wanna buy New Build Flat Now" thread on here for Monday am (some posters on here have the W/E off)......will keep you busy for the day...trust me.....no new build...careful of shared ownership as there are negative equity issues if prices go down....plus some are overvalued like newbuild flats......

Did you see the panoramam programme the other week?....There is a thread on this board with a link. Impt...you need to watch.

My OH has been involved in NB construction and the walls are all stud.

A small Victorian brick terrace is a better buy in the long term.

What you need is a pardner earning £40k.....then you can buy together:T .

Perhaps that's the key to homeownership?

I didn't see it sadly. To be honest I would like an older place. They are bigger, and sturdier (I think, I just come up with these opinions :rotfl: ) and I do like a project and am quite good with my hands, and doing DIY! :p

But aren't new builds more sell-able later?
