Hi, DG just seeing how you are doing, I have been following your thread. re your son, I'm not sure if you are already doing this, but it might be appropriate to be keeping a diary of your son's meetings with his father in terms of what he says, experiences etc afterwards. Eg if he comes home saying anything that his Dad was horrible to him then record it, as well as taking photos of bruises etc. It might help in terms of addressing this issue, as I am presuming that you will have to return to Court at some point. I know that this is a very difficult issue for you already, but it might help.

A way for you to cut down on pet food - farm supply shops / country stores are also open to the general public and sell very cheap animal feed. Our nearest one is Harbro http://www.harbro.co.uk/ which is a Scottish chain, but ask your local farmer where he buys his feed from. In Harbro 25kg bags of mixed grain are about £7 (price varies according to grain wholesale price) I feed my hens this but I'm sure you can also feed it to parrots?!? Trays of own brand cat/dogfood or trays of dented branded tins of cat/dogfood are about £2 and you get 25kg bags of working dog biscuits and cat biscuits for about £8/9. We have 15 hens, a dog, a cat, 5 sheep and spend about £15/month on animal feed.
Also, farm supply shops stock wormer, flea treatment etc, as well as huge sacks of potatoes for about a fiver, big bags of porridge oats, sometimes even flour and sugar...these shops are truly amazing.
Lastly, you can definitely claim expenses for travelling to hospital appointments (we also live about 70 miles from a hospital) if you ask at the outpatients reception desk they will give you cash straight away.
Chin up - I know it can feel like everyone's out to get you, but taking responsibility for and understanding your debt is incredibly empowering.
