Please consider YHA and SYHA deals - these do mean you genuinely 'pay' only 1/4 of the nightly rate in CC vouchers.
Also, all Deals being considered merit the usual groundwork and reading, as for anything. I'm not being a 'spoiler' here - it's just means I ignored many of the options other mser's have written about so unhappily and knew what I would receive/tender when e.g.booking a Greene King Traditional Inn a few months back. So, a night for 2, en suite room, B&B was £25 in vouchers - very acceptable.
If you buy wine from Mr T, don't ignore the NEW 'Double Value' heading on the CC Deals page, either. Have posted elsewhere about this.
    Good Luck! Bonnes trouvailles!

I use mine in yates pub, two meals for 6.95 and you can pay with vouchers. our local one also lets you get the drinks in as long as you are eating. We go every week and use money for holidays to get the best deals.

yes indeed, bg. I'm doing this for some nights, during 2xYHA week away via Ryanair's recent 1p all-in flights, taking one bit of cabin baggage.

I've often pondered on who makes up the 'shortfall' when you use vouchers, for example I've just paid £145 worth of vouchers for a £600 holiday; do Pontins lose out or do Tescos actually pay the companies?

The same with Sun holidays, do the Sun 'buy' the deals and pass them on to readers, or do the holiday camps just offer cheap hols to fill the spaces up?

I'm sure none of the companies involved are simply being benevolent!!!

    Any ideas / theories?

I think the shops/companies lose out a fair bit. The reason i say this is because i had about £200 of vouchers saved up to get my daughter a new bed (£800) from MFI, this was towards the end of when they stopped taking the deals vouchers. When i paid for the bed with my vouchers i asked about who loses/pays out etc and i remember the lady saying that they were pleased that the service was ending as they lose a lot on purchases made with vouchers.

I always thought that maybe Tesco met half the cost and the company the other half but im not sure. There was another company (trying hard to remember who now but cant) that i spoke to about if they accepted the deals vouchers and they said that they were approached by Tesco to join the scheme but Tesco put too many rules and terms and wanted it all their way and wasnt worth them taking part in it. Going to bug me now as to who it was

I suppose its not much different to what you hear about the farmers etc who supply them. They have to do as Tesco say or they dont get the deal. So although frustrating to us, you can see the companies point in a way if they dont like vouchers being used along with other offers. Its no different really to when you have a money off voucher or bogof free voucher, theres usually the small print saying 'not to be used in conjuction with any other offer'.

We always use ours for MOT's.

I totally agree with some of the comments on here about the holidays
if you dont pay for it out of you'r hard earned, tax payed wages then why moan ?
We have had many haven holidays for free in the past using vouchers
some deals are better than others but it depends on you'r needs.
are Airmiles a bad deal ? yes and no
when planning our family holiday to Lanzarote for 2 weeks in October
i compared cosmos through tesco and Cosmos through Airmiles holidays.

With Cosmos/Tesco the vouchers were x4 but no discounts, no free child place, not allowed to add vouchers from future mailings.

With Airmiles holidays, i got a discount and they price matched the best internet offer we could find, we got a free childs place, free insurance and we could add future mailing to reduce the total cost of the holiday.
cost of hol £1671, we paid £820, tesco paid the rest and with 3 mailings to go would have probably knocked that down to around £520
( but used my last mailing to have my car serviced for free )

So for anyone on a tight budget, you could save your vouchers for 2 years then book your holiday for the following year knowing that any future mailings could be used to reduce the cost even further.
  • Having read on here that vouchers ordered and not used are converted back to points on your card i was wondering if anyone could confrim this?

Last night we ordered tokens for haven to the sum of £150 (the price of the break we were interested in), we then discovered we cant use the vouchers online, and phoned instead. The price of the holiday jumped by over £100 so my husband said he would simply do it online instead. However, he is now very cross with me that i have "wasted" £37.50 in points on haven vouchers we wont use.

I contacted tesco last night via email but have not recieved a response as yet.

Im feeling quite worried about wasting the vouchers so any help would be gratefully recieved.

    Thank you

Yes they do convert them back.
But with mine they did not convert them back straight away, but they did show on the next statement.

Make sure you get a proof of posting or recorded delivery as mine went missing. Luckily I did have proof of return.

I also use mine in Yates and where I go they also allow you to go for the 2 for 1 offers on food and buy drinks.I think this is at the discretion of the manager as they are not supposed to accept them for any offers or drinks, but once you know that they do its a very good deal.

Yes, they will refund them, even though they don't shout about it!

thanks so much for your help! I will send them back with proof of postage

    thanks!
  • I posted yesterday about being "advised" by Tesco to not buy enough of a certain product offering 100 bonus points for a £2.50 spend. Basically if I bought 1700 packets I would have 175,000 points which would then convert to £7000 of deal tokens and I was going to buy a car from Motorpoint.

The Tesco rep was very nervous but continuously advised against the deal and even made references to security checks ! and comparisons with my previous spending record to see if I was "infringing the spirit of the deal"

I think that tesco might have done a 'Hoover" here and vastly miscalculated the level of uptake on the X4 deals and it would be useful if Martin Lewis tackled them about this and all the other issues that are being reported to this site.
