Any Tesco 'Clubcard deals' I should avoid?

Well, here goes, so shoot me down in flames.
The point is soundman, they offer the little extras on things but when people go out and buy 1700 packets of tampax compact just to get the points Tesco will start withdrawing the deals.
I thought that Tesco offered these extra points to their customers in exchange for their loyalty, not so that people can take the pee as in the end they'll withdraw the scheme and everyone will lose out and no-one will get anything. They have already clearly withdrawn their points on online shop and wines, they used to send various 100 point vouchers in the wine mailing and I used to buy the wines and stock up for giving as prsents at Xmas, last time I did not get any, they used to offer a lot in store, now they don't.
Is it just me? I really do not see the point in buying goods that are not used everyday and I think it is a shameful waste. Instead of letting the packets be available for 1700 people to buy one each you go and buy every pack in sight. Say for exampl you only get 1 pack - would you hav paid more than £1.45 in petrol to get there? Why on earth would you need 1700 packs of tampax anyway?? What on earth will you do with them??
I think that yes, Tesco are right, it is totally infringing in the spirit of the deal and shows that you are greedy, there is getting something extra for doing your shopping in one store and there is taking the p!ss. Likewise I don't think everyone should have their kids signed up to the wine clubs so they can get extra vouchers.
I wonder who is going to be the first to complain when the scheme is withdrawn altogether, I certainly get naffed off that there are no online grocery vouchers for points at the moment and they stopped those as they were being abused. And I don't think it is about miscalculating the level of uptake, it is more about the sheer lengths people will go to to get extra points and Tesco will not have unlimited supply to Tampax Compact, they will be offered the goods by the company and use this method of promotion, once they are gone that will be it and there will not be anything left for either the duration of the promotion for anyone else.
My opinion on your doing this is that you are greedy, I am sure we could all argue the toss either way but actions such as yours will mean Tesco will either restrict the amount of goods going into each store for that promotion limit the amounts they put out and put just a few out each day or thy will stop the promotions altogether and then everyone loses out.
the mind boggles at what you are going to do with over 15,000 tampax in all honesty. Landfill? Car Boot Sale? How much would you sped on petrol travelling around to different tescos to buy them? OK, so you manage to get 17 packets from each Tescos, that is 100 stores you have to visit on different days to get them all. that would take me weeks!! Do you really think each store will carry 1700 packets in stock at any one time??0 -

I have had 2 holidays in Disneyland at christmas thanks to the tesco clubcard deals.
Although there were conditions to it eg. holiday had to cost over £500 (but with £300 of deals £200 wasn't at all bad) and when i booked last christmas and asked for silver service i was only allowed to pay so much in clubcard vouchers.
I would have never been able to afford to take my kids to disney if it hadn't been for my clubcard points.
Unfortunately Leger no longer do the disney trips with tesco so glad we went when we did. Too popular i was told when i rung to enquire why.0 -
I've read this thread with interest because I have over the past 2 years been able to take the kids on 3 Haven holidays, a pre-Christmas break at Butlins and countless days out and meals out while on our 'free' holiday thanks to CC deals, this year we are off to Legoland, Drayton Manor, Cadburyworld, Drusilla's etc all combining with £19 Travelodge stays over Easter and the Summer Hols and I also recently booked 3 nights at a Ramada Jarvis (b+b) for the 3 of us for £40, on-line discounts were included at RJ so we can visit relatives in Gloucestershire.
The holidays were all paid for in full with deals and we certainly wouldn't have been able to do any of that without the extra 1000 point codes for a £50 on other threads. As a single Mum with 2 young children (one in a wheelchair) it's the only way we can afford to go away but I don't think I've abused the system, just used a code everytime I've done an on-line shop which I have to do every week as I can't shop with my disabled son.
It's a real shame that Tesco have cut back on the points but it was good while it lasted and I still have £150 (£600) in deals to use.
I class every holiday and day out we have had as a free day out and it is really down to the individual how they spend their deals and get the best value for their 'free' deal. My only other shopping option is Asda and as you get nothing back from them I'd rather spend a couple of pounds extra in Tesco to get some quality time with my kids.0 -
Hi Bright Idea & Tigs,
Yes, I was not talking of the likes of using codes to do shopping so please don't think I was - they were always there to be used the once and there were always several codes around. However, if you look on other sites you'll find people have 10-15-20 email accounts to be able to use the codes over and over again and I find this wrong. As I said, likewise about the person I read about who had signed her 4 kids up to baby club/wine club/healthy living club (I have a child in babyclub but why buy nappies just for points??) Just my opinion of course, but Tesco were not going to keep on giving everything away and with pople gloating about it then of course they are going to knuckle down. Using it to order your usual shopping is not abusing the system as the codes were there to do that and I used to do the same as there would be 5 or 6 codes knocking around each quarter to use, plus wine (1 or 2 deliveres a year) flowers for mothers day, etc... all little things that add up. I would not usually buy flowers or wine from Tesco but with £20 of points for ordering £20 of flowers - well of course, I bought the flowers last year and gave these to my mum, this year I went to the store and got them there. Wine I used to get once or twice a year and give to friends as presents at birthday and Xmas as we are teetotal, but those points were usually 2500 for £100 order and free delivery as over £99.
But the majority of these deals have now stopped and the post from Soundman shows why Tesco are stopping. If I was running a business then I would too. Indeed, because of how people abuse codes I have the facility on my own website to set up order codes and I have a clause in the T&C that people abusing codes will have their orders cancelled. Deals were intended to be mounted up over the year or so, not so that someone who has enough money in the bank to buy £5000 worth of tampons that he does not need (I am saying he, could be she but still, 15,000 tampons?????) to save £2000 on a car - and I am certain this is not why Tesco set up the deals scheme. It was so that people who use their services get rewarded for their loyalty by getting a little extra for free when they use codes!
I remember reading about one person on a certain website who called in regarding an enquiry on their account and they had had 12 accounts running but Tesco had merged them all into one as they found the customer with lots of different accounts. It is only going to take a huge Audit of their Clubcard Database to make them reaise what people are doing (hence that bloke with £15,000 worth of deals over 15 cards. Why have 15 cards if you think you are in the 'right'?).
The sad thing is that people like you and I lose out. My son is AS and hates the supermarket and I never used to go, I used to spread out the orders over the month (2 a month) now I don't and get my big monthly shop online and top up at a small supermarket in the next town where it is not a stressful and quier toget around. the points were always a small bonus and incentive to shop with Tesco!! The points paid for our annual holiday too as we don't go out anywhere because of my son's condition, we could not afford a holiday otherwise either, so we lose that too and it was the only escapism from the house for me.
The daft thing is that soundman could probably cut a better deal if he walking in and saying he had £5000 anyway!! These companies make their money on people using credit facilities/clubcard vouchers and bump up the price of the cars!! The same as we was saying with the holidays being cheaper if buying online or DIY holidays - they are not going to take a loss and there is no way that Tesco will be paying full price on the screen of any car so the company will have to bump up it's price and cash buyers would have been able to negotiate.0 -
I agree with all you say and I certainly didn't think you mean't people like us when you talk about abuse. I have just 2 accounts, 1 in my name and 1 in my ex partners but as our cards are merged all points end up in the 1 account which means I don't get loads of different mailings.
I also agree with the point about the car. To buy that many packs you would need £4250 which is probably about the same amount as a £7000 car from Motorpoint is worth anyway.
If they send me the odd 1000 pointer now and then, which means I can still treat the kids, then I'll be happy, all the other moneysaving I've done thanks to this site and quidco will pay towards next years holiday. Like I said, it's great while it's there but greed always ruins things for the masses so it was inevitable that at sometime they would stop all the bonuses. They may be a company making huge profits but that's exactly what they want isn't it, you don't open a business to give stuff away and run at a loss.0 -

Has anyone used tesco vouchers to pay for a stay at a marriott hotel?
I am looking at doing this later in the year and would like to know if anyone got any tips anything I need to know.
Ive done it a couple of times. The only downside is if you have, for example, £200sworth of Mariott voucter but only spend £180 on the stay, you dont get the £20 back in any form. So, before you convert your points to vouchers see how much a weekend will cost you so you dont get too many.
Also, have a look on the Mariott website and see what the best deal you can get is. I believe the Mariott vouchers are only payable on the Stay For Breakfast rates (which are usually quite good anyway). Get the rates from the website and make sure its the same ones they quote you when you phone with the booking (you must book via phone with the vouchers you cant do via the Mariott website.0 -
First of all lets make it clear that we are talking about Tesco here, not some poor little corner shop. They make billions in profits from us then do everything they can to pay NO UK TAX by creating tax shelters to move their profits to the Cayman Islands. They did not create these "deals" out of the goodness of their hearts, they did it to increase their profits by getting us to buy more of their products. If they leave loopholes in their systems they only have themselves to blame.
This was nothing to do with greed,it was about saving money!! the whole purpose of this site. As for the Tampax, I was going to send them to the red Cross, it is one of the goods that they have a constant requirement for.0
