Good luck to the lady who is doing the IVF. Sorry i have forgotten your age. I cant imagine how tough it is going through concieving. I really do wish you well. It took my mother 13 years to have me, by that time she was 2 years younger than you are now and was going in to have a hysterectomy when they carried out a routine pregnancy test to find me in there! Just scraped through!! There is always hope.

However, I would tell any female friend or relation who asked my opinion to start trying for a baby as soon as they got married.

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't particularly helpful when I posted. I realise lots of people don't get married before or after, regardless of what my friends and family do, and I have nothing against older moms. I just worry that increasing life expectancies and the wider availability of IVF, etc, may - I don't know - in some way influence decisions that people could regret later on. After all, you could be 16, in perfect health, menstruate till your 50s, afford ample private healthcare and never get pregnant. It's not guaranteed at any age. I guess I just wanted to say that some things are beyond our planning and/or control.

Maybe in some cases, but from I have seen in here, a lot of us didn't meet the right person til later in life. Them's the breaks! Just have to see if we get lucky or not. :)

  • Had a chat with OH and told him all about this thread- he couldn't believe there were so many opinions on the matter to get to 8 pages ! Explained my concerns over the age thing and that I didn't want to leave it too late. He said he didn't realise I was so concerned about it and that we can start trying now if I wanted to

Anyway, have decided to wait until we move house then start trying next year- don't know why but it terrifies me.... I feel a lot more secure though knowing he wants it too :smileyhea :happyhear

Well I am glad you have had a proper chat about it. If you feel terrified at the moment, then probably best wait til you move. Glad all these conflicting confusing posts have helped, in some small way. :D

  • Someone who used to live close to me had a sister who had a baby at 51 (thought her family was complete, 3 kids already)
She was just watching tv one evening with her husband when she felt a distinct kicking in her belly and only then realised she was pregnant (6 months gone!! ) . She'd put her symptoms down to "the change of life  ;)" Baby arrived safe and well, she and her hubby got over the shock, I'm not sure if the older kids did :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

You're quite right LouBlue, although my parents had encountered each other before WWII the time wasn't right and it was only later (1954-ish) that they got together and married - by which time they were both in their mid 30's.

Instead of starting trying, why don't you just stop trying not to get pregnant?
