    smokybabe how are things going?

I have had a good day; went to the gym at lunchtime :A AND they had a Book People stall which I passed by without buying anything :A (however my office is having one next week and I am sure I am going to want something... I have a thing about cookbooks, and if I'm not careful I can spend loads - it all adds up even when they're so heavily discounted! Think I'm going to give myself an allowance, £10 maybe, to stick to ON PAIN OF DEATH :o)

I've had a cheap couple of months and I get paid tomorrow, so my finances are really looking healthy at the moment - I'm attempting to squirrel away a few quid here and there towards my 30th birthday party. However I can see all my efforts draining away over the next month or so - I think it's going to be "one of those months":

    1. It's my mum's birthday on Saturday, we're going to a concert (already paid for, as is my train fare) and I have promised that my present to her will be to take her out for a meal at Strada before the concert.
    2. My non-winter coat hasn't yet been dry-cleaned since the autumn, and has a tear which needs fixing and is too awkward to do myself.
    3. I want to make a decent donation to the Diocese of London's Lent Appeal - aiming to build 3 schools in Angola and Mozambique.
    4. I have two colleagues who have both asked to be sponsored for the London Marathon. Both are for really good causes which have been hugely personally important to the people concerned (one is a former battered wife and is running in aid of Refuge; the other had a baby son who died unexpectedly at birth and is running in aid of SANDS) so I really want to pledge decent donations to both as I think it will mean a lot to them.

Anyway I'm sure it'll work out - it's coming up to another "council tax free month", and I've just ordered £30 in John Lewis vouchers from Pigsback so perhaps I can use that on Waitrose shopping later in the month and free up my food money to be spent elsewhere?

    Must be off

    Love Rzl xx

    Hi guys,

Well we are no further forward, in fact OH has slipped back a little. To date they have tried twice to take him off dialysis and kick start his kidneys with drugs but this has failed. He is producing a little more urine - about 20cc per hour but it is nowhere near enough for his body weight.

They have tried 5 times now to lower the sedation and get him off the ventilator but each time his BP shoots through the roof and his oxygeon levels drop too low. His lungs are also filling with fluid each time they try (they have explained why but I don't understand it.) They have tried doing it slowly, with different sedation, turning the sedation off and backing it up with beta blockers and other meds to try and keep the BP down. Same result each time.

They had managed to get him breathing on his own (well, 50 - 50 )with help from the ventilator (these machines are bloomin amazing) but last night he was unable to keep up a good rythm and had to be more deeply sedated and the vent took over all of the work again. This happened I gather because of fluid on the lungs.

They have decided to leave it again for a few more days and stabalise him before deciding where next. They say they can not perform the tracheostomy as he is currently needing too much support from the vent.

I am only glad that he has no idea what is going on. The kids are starting to ask more questions and I am having a hard time just at the mo keeping it all together.

Anyway the house is spotless, the dreaded under the stairs (his domain) is now clutter free, our huge fish tank has been scrubbed out today and I am trying to arrange someone to look after the kids for me on Fri so that I can pop up and see him before the weekend.

I hope you are well, I haven't read through today, well the last couple of days.

    Smoky.

Smokybabe, Thanks for letting us know, I was wondering how your OH is doing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please make sure you look after yourself too, as well as looking after everybody else, and (this may sound daft but...) please remember to eat and try to sleep too. You need your strength.
    Take care
