I did get a bit confused with the options to be honest, wasnt sure whether the first option was just to continue without the competitions threads or not as it was 'continue with threads in current format', not sure whether it was just me or not?

  • It was the first poll I've ever done and I wasn't really sure how it would look. I tried to keep the question and answers VERY specific.

ie: the question - 'What is your take on the Comeptition Ending threads' and my statement after the poll stating in it's first sentence: 'specifically regarding the competition ending threads'? If the answers are taken into account using the question stated above the poll then it hopefully was clear.

A few did mention it was confusing but I tried to be as clear possible. Unfortunately the poll can't be changed after the voting had started.

I would suggest that if there was any confusion then the votes would have gone both ways, so perhaps the 37 votes in favour of the exisiting system is inflated. Either way though, over 200 expressed an opinion, which I still find amazing for the forum.

  • Forgive me. I just got your angle hjb123! :D

The 'current format' was used as they are being used until 29/02 list and therefore 'current'. I understand why you were confused.

  • I agree with hjb123 with regards to the options being a bit confusing. I misunderstood the options the first time I read them.

I suspect that the results "FOR the threads in their current format " option might not be accurate.

I've been away from the boards for a couple of weeks since I've been rather busy so I have missed the chance to contribute on this. I want to throw in a suggestion that I think is a good compromise.

I will greatly miss the "Comps Ending..." threads and would like to see them back, especially seeing as there are people willing to put the effort in. As I understand it, the board guides object to these threads appearing in the main forum so can we put them somewhere else?

I don't see a need for a new sub-forum or hosting them offsite from MSE, they could just be created in the "Game Over" sub-forum. We already have the principle of comps being moved to this forum if they are ending on the current day so why not place the "comps ending" threads there? Only those who want to see them would find them.

A new thread title format might be better, something like "Deadline: 20080421" (for 21st April 2008). Then we could search on 'Deadline' to find the threads, or we could sort on thread title. All discussion of who does which dates could also be kept on a sticky in Game Over.

From a service level perspective, I imagine the "Game Over" forum is last on the list for repairing or restoring if MSE has problems since I imagine it is just there as a reference. I'm sure the authors of deadline threads won't mind if they are a low priority for restore in a disaster or if they get lost altogether.

What do the board guides think? I'm not attempting to stir this, I'm just genuinely sorry to see the threads go and trying to find a compromise solution.
Many tx to all who post constructively in all the forums!
  • Can I just ask people who use these lists not to bump the closing comps to the the top of the comps list. Theres been a lot of 28/02 comps bumped up today by people adding a comment and its going to cause a lot of dupes.
    Thanks!

I actually think that putting the threads in game over would be a good idea than having them in the main comping forum, however I dont think the change of date format is that good an idea, all those numbers together look really confusing and am sure it would make things alot harder for the board guides whoalready do a brilliant job, think also the current format works if everyone used it properly:D

    URGENT PLEASE READ!!!

right after much discussion between all the board guides we have a proposal to make to everyone and think that we have come up with a great compromise that will suit everyone.

please let us know what you think of the idea.

we will have one comps closing xx date thread allowed this will be posted a day before so for eg. if one was posted today it would be for tomorrows date and so on.

this will be made a sticky daily by which ever board guides spots it first and then moved to game over at the end of the day.

Who posts the thread will be up to users, if it is duplicated then they will be merged in together so there is always only one thread per day.

Please dont fight over who does which day!! you can sort it out amongst yourselves in the comps discussion thread.

we will start this from tomorrow if people like this idea so if someone wants to complie a list for all comps ending 02/03 then that will be made a sticky tomorrow morning.

Please dont post the actual thread until the morning on the day it will be made a sticky. so tomorrows thread will be for comps ending 02/03 but dont post it until first thing tomorrow morning.

I am sure we will all soon get used to this new system!!
