  • For those of you like me who are going to miss the competitions ending threads .......I've just found a way to search for the end dates. On Google enter the end date in the format used on here, for instance E:29/02. One or two results for this forum should turn up. Then click on "More results from forums.moneysavingexpert.com" (which should be at the bottom of the search) :D

Once again thanks to all the people who did competitions ending dates, I for one found them very useful and I know a lot of hard work went into producing them. :T
  • Apologies for posting this once again but it seems the best place due to the sticky. With the reigning in of the expiry date format this will simultaneously assist with grouping the dates using the following method:

There is a very simple way for us to change how the forums is displayed. It will re-sort the competitions listing by the title instead and therefore group expiry dates together making them easier to find.

Please take the time to understand this as it will remain the ONLY way to find comps by the end date. I suggest you open another window/tab with THIS PAGE so you can see exactly what I'm on about.

When you first look at page 1 of the 'Competitions Time' you'll see it displayed in the 'default' method of LAST POST. You can check this by looking for the little triangle next to 'Last Post'. This way shows the most recent message displayed.. all the way back to the oldest.

Any of those blue column headers (Thread/ThreadStarter/Last Post/Replies/Views) can be clicked on instead and therefore altering the way the entire list is displayed.

The one we'll need to start using is the header 'THREAD'. (The one right next to it sorts the display into order of who posted the thread first and although handy to some is not part of this explanation.)

By clicking on THREAD you'll alter the way the entire list is displayed and this time by the title of each thread. Now why is this important? Well each post should now display the end date of the comp (eg. E: 01/03). When you look at the list filtered by THREAD it will be sequentially ordered by date. MAGIC!!

To change the list back simply click once again on LAST POST to re-order it back in the default manner.

    Please try this out.

<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I also echo similar sentiments in that i also thought the "Competition Ending" threads were an excellent addition to the forum & had it of been given more of a chance & perhaps a few guidelines (ie ... not posting until few days before end date) then i am unable to see why so much fuss was caused  .... surely, anything that makes peoples lives a litle easier benefits the "fun" element of the site :j

In my opinion the real answer is to allow the site to search by date correctly, having read the instruction on how to date order the threads, it seems a much more primitive way to me & frankly does not work as it batches all kinds of dates together :confused:

Finally, i would also like to thank the people for their hard work, contribution & general initiative in the "comp ending" threads ... it was a great idea & i for one, would welcome it back anytime :money:

  • correct me if i am wrong but doesn't the forum list it by the day first

i.e. somebody putting 20/02 is going to come up after 19/03

maybe we need to do it American style and do the month first and then the date e.g. 02/20 and then 03/19 next month

Your right, I tried the Thread starter as above and had to then find the relevent pages.

But importantly the first lot of thread in 1-31 days order were the ones without a space after the date, then the next lot had a space between the E: and date, then the last load were all different again.

Thank you through Monsieur, that is very handy to know for when we return from a break to play catch up with. I don't think I could use it every day through.
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

on to a more contentious issue. These threads that people are starting about comps closing xx date. They are really getting a bit much now. I didnt mind when we were just a day ahead, but to have until the end of the month is just clogging up the boards.

I know the above is going to upset some of you, but this makes life a lot easier for the board guides and other users

    Hi Divadee

As I write there are only 5 "comps ending feb" posts in competition time, in a total of over 3600 current competition time posts. I don't really think this is overwhelming/clogging up the board.

If it helps people, let them stay, and bravo to all the people compiling them!

I'm sure it's annoyed some people but let's not "ban" them. Set a limit on them, or if necessary create a separate sub-category board for them. There are often more "duplicate please remove" posts to navigate around than there are competition ending ones.

Kipper said the other day - when the search wasn't working - that the Google option isn't infallible, and doesn't find everything, so you might miss some.

Still, the forum search isn't exactly perfect, either.icon7.gif

I think you will find that most of them are in Game Over
