Dissertation motivation!

Hi all,

I am not writing a dissertation BUT am in midst of doing all the written work for a work placement that is ending this wee.

Portfolio and 5000 word case study. NOT helped by computer going bonkers at end of january and wiping a lot of work and then costing me £££ to get fixed. Fortunately i was advised to get an extension so have a week extra...phew.

I have virtually finsihed portfolio but hardest bit has been tying my manager down to do his bits! Am 1500 words into case study but not very cohesive. All ideas in the written plan but need to get it onto paper.

So wish i could be the type of person who gets it done well in advance but I jsut can't.....think I secretly enjoy the last minute pressure!

I'm doing a Masters by distance learning just now and working full time along side it - have my dissertation due in August which sounds like ages away but I know will be here before I know it.

Wrote and passed my interim report, so I know that what I'm proposing to do is sound and achievable, now I just need to get on with it. Thankfully, it's work based, so I should get prodded about it at work too....

Sometimes I just think, why did I decide to do this?!

Im so glad its not just me!!

My dissertation is a practical research one where i undertake research for a voluntary organisation to help them recieve funding for them to operate an additional year.

I still have to do a 8,000 - 10,000 report and a 4,000 word essay to compliment it

Well i just cant get going, i have 1/2 collected the data needed but i cant make a start on the methodological essay that goes with it.

I need someone to push me to get going.

I agree though that once you get started its fine, its just that initial start!!

I decided my dissertation topic today after a very informative lecture. I know its a year away yet but thought I'd get a head start haha.

I'm trying to get as much done as possible before Easter revision cramming begins (oh the joys). I just wish I had a better supervisor!

I've just lost 2000 words (its an assignment half done not my main research). I have an earlier version (about 1000 words) saved but had added loads, including references. The PC just corrupted not just the file I was working on, but also the saved version on my memory stick.......

Fortunately I did print a hard copy yesterday but I've done several hours today! I'll just have to retype....

I don't usually use the main PC as the kids play on it and it is quite slow but I have the printer connected.

oh pandora I know your pain.

My computer went totally beserk a few weeks ago. Lost a lot of stuff and even when it was mended the time it took me to reinstall EVERyTHING was infuriating. It stumped me for days as i would think 'oh i will have a look at xxx journal'.....oh ok going to take me longer as adobe been wiped! Or 'oh i'll just print that out'.....oh yes i have to reinstall printer. ........then couldn't find software so had to download it...aAAAAAARRRGGGHHh.

Everything took forever. Pleased now though as computer super quick and better than new!

Thanks for the sympathy squirrelchops. Strangely I don't feel the deep gloom I expected and will retype today (from hard copy).

Let's hope this really gives me a feel for the thing and spurs me on to write the rest (it is a bit of an amorphous mess at the moment).

Update: Thursday 6pm Have now retyped thank goodness. Masses more to do though (2000 words)

It's very quiet on this thread just now, isn't it? Is everyone deep in studying or getting a life I wonder?

I'm not. I'm in the thick of it and procrastinating but at crunch time. 4000 words due on Monday and will need to be posted tomorrow. Over 3k done but rather rambling and much tidying and referencing to do........ I know I can do it but its such hard work. This isn't my thesis topic, so difficult to get motivated.

And I said I wouldn't do this again (leave it until the last minute).

AAGH! I have one month exactly till my dissertation is due in... I'm not even half finished my introduction! Once that bit is out of the way, the rest shouldn't be too hard, but I am actually starting to panic now!

(Also I have decided now is the perfect time to sit an intensive driving course. Pressure? Me?)
