I'm still polishing mine, it's due soon, ready to submit as such, but I'm just starting to accept that graduate research (my long held dream was to combine a P/T pHD with work) is going to be out of the question for me.

Following a series of family & marital crisies over the last 2 years I'll be lucky to get a 2:2. Feels like yet another kick in the teeth, but I've nothing else to do but pick myself up and count my blessings. Gutted though, I guess I always held onto that hope that it would all work out....

Good luck jay, hope you get a result youre happy with. I'll be pleased with whatever i get, i'd be dissapointed with a 3rd but i never thought i was intelligent enough to even get a degree and a couple of years ago i didnt want one, just fell into it!

Wouldnt do it again in a month of sundays though!

Thanks Vix, good luck to you as well, I don't think I'll get a 3rd, but we'll have to see, really not sure right now, depends on this last lot. I'd do it again tomorrow, really love it, would keep working next time though, I miss the banter and can only study for so long at a time anyway. Well, outside the mad times just before submission, lol.

What are you studying? Sounds as though you're nearly finished...

Oh good there are people out there still working (well good for me, not necessarily for you!) Good luck vix - at least you have plenty of time (sort of but I know how it disappears). Jay your soons enthusiastic which is important and will help you at this final stage. And you can always come back to do research in the future.

As for my stuff, it's 500 words done so far so just 3500 to go by next Wed/Thurs. That's possible but quite a challenge - and I can't possibly take it on holiday with me so I have to do it!

Hi pandora, good luck with the 3500, which level are you?

I'm mega enthusiastic, been putting in loooong days to finish and polish my huge 5,000 word essay (40 points, same as dissertation! Cos it's (essay) linked to a placement), and polishing diss. which is 10,000 words. (now, then roll on masters...I will do one, and a PhD, just might have to do a lot of refining study skills to get a masters place.

I love my subject so much, and where there's a will!

    xxx Jay

    Hi Jay.

I'm doing a doctorate but the first half has taught modules, and I'm just finishing my first year (part time). I already have a degree (and two masters) so I must be mad doing this! Though its a very long time since I studied and I'm struggling a bit getting back and learning how to search literature etc.

You sound very enthusiastic - what are you studying? (apols if you've said before).

PS just typed up some notes today though I'm planning to study all tomorrow and make a real dent on it.

Wow, impressive, I'm hoping to do a p/t research masters after this, once I've done all the prelim. research into my interests/whats been done ayway, and got a job to fund it, lol!
I never got to uni when younger and always wanted to, so that probably explains the enthusiasm, I'm studying OT, and there's ahuge need for research, so that's an advantage to getting a masters place, I hope.

    What's your subject?
    Anytime;)

Interesting, and studying while working gives a whole new dimension to the subject, as you will see. I did my degree later too (OU) which was probably why I was quite motivated then.

I'm a psychologist and have been for rather a long time, now doing a Doctorate in Educational Psychology in my old age! It's the new professional qualification for entrants to the profession but those of us who have been working for a while are encouraged to do it for professional development and to keep up with our trainees!

Hey guys, been a while since I popped in! Just wanted to wish you luck and sympathy!

I also thought I'd update you all on my dissertation (thank God it's over!) - I graduated with a 2i last month and am starting medical school in September :D

Good luck with the rest of your dissertations, you'll get through them and one day we'll all look back and laugh at the stress (I'm still waiting for that day haha)
Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde
