Thanks bestpud:D , how are you getting on?

Just going back to finish the second half of my final year (undergrad).

I've just started my dissertation and I'm all fired up at the moment, so trying to get lots done before my motivation drops! :D
  • Hey everyone! Not been on here in a while! Following Sali_mali I thought i'd let everyone know I got 2.2 in the end which I was very happy with considering I didn't really have a clue what I was doing on the dissertation! Seems a lot of you are still here working hard, keep going, you can do it! I'll check in from time to time to see how your all getting on, good luck! Amy

Well done Amy, it's tough stuff isn't it, I hope the next part of your career works out as you hope.

Hi everyone... it's back to the grindstone here. Just got my second assignment back with a pass and lots of positive comments. I'm so relieved as this was the epistemology one and really tricky, and I can use part of it as a chapter in my thesis. I can register for this year now (I was waiting as I'd dedided to quit if I had to resubmit).

Waiting for my third one back, and need to get going on my fourth. I haven't even decided on which topic to choose so really must give this some thought this weekend.

The course (ie uni days) starts again soon, which will be great as I need that to spur me on. I might repeat the Information Services training as I'm still rather shaky on my literature search techniques and can't do electronic referencing yet.

So, new academic year and lots of resolutions about working more consistently and no last minute late night assignments that burn me out and lead to high anxiety.

This year I will get organised!!

:rotfl: Me too, but then I have been saying that for five years now!!

I am doing pretty well so far though, I have to say, but it is actually quite disconcerting! :p

I am absolutely determined to crack on with my dissertation and not be doing it last minute. I have until early December and I've actually started writing the lit review, which is shockingly early for me!

Sounds like you are doing well so far (this year anyway!) I only have funding for 4 years (part time), so really have to keep up, otherwise I'll be funding the final years myself.

And my assignments have become out of step with the course - I'm still submitting them a term behind so would like to catch up. I'm not sure if that is possible as I work full time, have a family etc but that's the plan!

Writing the literature review is a big hurdle when it comes to a thesis/dissertation as it can take (and waste) so much time. I'm getting a bit better at the techniques and building up quite a bank of material related to my research topic, so hopefully by the time I'm ready to start on the dissertation proper (in a year's time) I'll know what I'm doing.

Well done Pandora, passing at this level is quite an achievement, something I can only dream of at the moment!

You too bestpud, it's tough to keep going with a young child--I've been reading some of your other posts and am sorry I didn't realise that you were having such a tough time with the work, particularly when you were being so supportive of others'! Well done for persevering, it's really hard at times, but so worth it in the end! I hope your dissertation goes really well. I too found the lit review to be really time consuming--are you doing primary research or a lit review based dissertation?

I'm taking a year off from study--need to find a job, sort the house out, and beef up my writing and IT skills--I'm planning to work full time and do my masters part time, (and have a life) so will need to be very organised and really need to speed up or I'll have to give up sleep:rolleyes:. I've done heavy study/workloads before so am only too aware of what it will involve, lol.

Good luck to both of you, hope it all goes well, and you realise your dreams.

    xx

I was actually telling myself off the other day for being so snappy on here of late and have been trying not to let my stresses interfere with my posts! :o So, thanks for that - you've made me feel much better now!

You've obviously only read the better posts though! :rotfl:

I'm really looking forward to going back now - especially as it will be part time.

A few weeks ago I was ready to jack it all in as I kind of lost my way with it all, and 'forgot' my reasons for doing the degree. But since then I've decided to retake two modules rather than submit the asignments late and that has really helped - a clean slate almost.

Good luck with the job hunting. It must be great to be assignment free - for a while anyway!

I know the feeling...I can remember downloading the uni withdrawal form on at least 3 occasions:rolleyes:, but I've loved my time at uni, kinda wish I'd studied years ago--still I did lots of other interesting things, so no regrets really.

Only really free for a couple of weeks--I'm leading the publishing for a research project I was part of, looking forward to it though, and to job-hunting. Interviews though:eek:

I intercalated last semester and so haven't officially been a student since December (although I've been catching up on last semseters assignments (I only managed to get one assignment in before I intercalated) so haven't really stopped as such.

It's alarming how quickly I lost the knack of writing essays etc.

I love being a student too. I think it would be easier in many ways to do it while young, but then I know I wouldn't have got half as much out of it iyswim? I think 18 is too young, personally, and maybe the optimum age is early twenties? Sort of after experiencing a bit of life but before settling down and buying houses, having children etc?

Make the most of your break then - shame the weather is so rubbish!
