Dissertation motivation!

Hang in there!..i'm sure you can drag it out of somewhere!

I've spent the whole weekend SPSS-ing and eyes have finally spritzed!
i find it really hard to gather sensible results from SPSS. S'all so confusing.

Whats SPSS? I think we have that but have never used it!

I asked that, too, it's a social statistics thing/system, everyone on here has hated it when doing their dissertations

I've given up on my dissertation, don't care anymore, got placement (full time+travel+ homework), serious illness in family, and it's been one problem after another throughout the 3 years. (plus I have 2 kids, moved to do course so limited social network). Now I don't care about the diss. Gutted in a way cos I love research and wanted to do a phd, but I can only manage so much, so there it is. The diss. only adds the 'honours' bit anyway, and isn't worth a breakdown.

I graduated a few years ago but am currently trying to update the work I did for my dissertation. I was wondering if any of you could spare 2mins to fill my questionnaire in. There is some spelling and grammar issues lol but I have been rushing. Any help would be appreciated.

Aww, don't give up at this stage!

At least speak with your supervisor about it first. You can probably still get an extension on it as you have extenuating circumstances. When is it due?

It's due 20th (final draft tomorrow) and course leader is looking at extensions tomorrow!!!! Meanwhile I'm on placement 9-4pm, 25 miles away (they've been great but already been messed about by uni, so I'm trying to avoid causing more hassle and can't take more time off). Plus I need a good reference from placement, so my diss. HAS to be secondary. I might get an extension, just don't know. I'm just worn out with it all.

Its a very nasty software statistics package..very hard to use. You put all your data in and then press some keys and it produces reams of meaningless analyses...well, meaningless me anyway!

I agree, it's definitely not worth a breakdown! Hope your supervisor can help you out.

Email your supervisor tonight and explain the problems you are having, saying why you cannot get in tomorrow. Outline the reasons for wanting an extension and any evidence you can provide.

What about your personal tutor too, if you have one?

Just don't give up yet - you know you will regret ot later, when the panic has gone and this all seems a distant nightmare!
