When cutting up mushrooms, tomatoes or other round fruit / veg into slices, cut the first slice, then turn this flat side to the bottom as a base so it doesn't roll anywhere. Stupid, but I spent years holding mushrooms when chopping so it didn't roll!

If you lose the butterflies from the backs of earings, a clever way of replacing them is with a cut up piece of the clear plastic can holders you get holding four cans together. Just cut a small square and punch a hole in it with the earing. Works wonders and as it is see through it does not show up too much.
Another use for the milk bottle/carton tops is to put them over bamboo canes in the garden to stop anyone poking their eyes out on the canes.
Can anyone give me a use fro the little plastic ball things you put laundry liquid in and put in the wahing machine? I seem to have loads of them and feel its a sin to put them in the bin. Must be someone creative out there!

My (not so) obvious tip is for tortilla wraps.

Once you've got them home chuck them straight in the freezer (unless you plan to use them immediatly). This sounds bizzare I know, but for some blessed reason they are the devils own to seperate unless you freeze them first. Once they have been defrosted they come apart soooo easily.

Many wraps I have ripped to shreads trying to separate, but this really works.

When I see lemons reduced or on special offer in the supermarket I buy them and then slice them, wrap them in plastic wrap and then put them into the freezer. That way when someone wants lemon in their drink I have some ready and it didn't cost a fortune. The ends that are too small for in drinks do a great job of freshening up the waste disposal unit as well.

Do you mean that you just cut a bit of lemon and leave it at the bottom of your dustin to takle the smells. I have been searching for a way of cutting down the smell of my son's nappy bin. How long does the lemon work for. Will it last for a month?

I know what you mean. I have loads of the tablets bags spare and I use them as money bags. I also use them for sorting out things like buttons and other small things in the sewing box.

AS for your plastic balls... all I can think of is donating them to your local nursery.. they can use them to make things out of.

  • Forget Ironing I haven't done so in years. After washing your clothes put them in the tumble dryer and as soon as they are dry remove them and either fold them up (t-shirts and alike) or hang them up (shirts and trousers).
  • Another one which I haven't tried but I know someone who had the guts to do has done it. If you are waiting in the queue in the supermarket and they say that they are going to close it just as you get there try this. If you have frozen or chilled food say that you will leave it where it is and say that you are leaving. They are not allowed to put the food back so threating to leave it there means they get told off. a last resort after a hard day.
  • If you are doing the gardening and use cheap plastic gloves wear tw pairs that way if the top one gets ripped you won't get your hands dirty
