HDMI cable? and upscaling dvd

Can anyone give advice from their own experience of which HDMI cable is best to buy? Also, i assume that is the correct cable to buy if im getting a DVD recorder with upscaling abilities so that i will get a near HD image on the a HD ready tv instead of using our current scart leads?
I have been looking and do not want to spend £50+ on a cable (although this may be the best i cant justify the cost). I have seen some on offer which should be anything from £25-40 and they are £8-15. Terms used for them are gas injected, silver cable, copper etc.
Heres links, so could you help choose

The ones in the bottom picture look the business but the top ones (gas injected etc) seem to have good technology behind them. As i dont know what im really looking for though and looks can be deceiving thats why im hoping someone heres knows whats best. I know IXOS and others are very good but they are also very expensive.
We already have a dvd recorder but as the tv we are getting i brought as a package and will come with a new dvd recorder, which will have upscaling properties, will we see much difference from watching through the HDMI lead on the new dvd player, compared to watching the current dvd player with scart leads on a CRT tv?
CAn anyone also tell me am i able to connect my laptop (tv has a pc connection, also another hdmi too) to the tv? My laptop does not have DVI but a normal blue vga connection?
The tv comes this week and i would like to have the leads ready so we can benefit from the best picture to start with. Im quite excited about getting it, even though i dont watch it that much, but am a bit worried that it will be too big, due to the small comparitive price difference though it was better to go for the bigger model. Thanks for any suggestions.

My local electrical store charge ohhh £6.50 +vat
They do mail order too. Min order is £5. I brought a couple and they work fine on my plasma 42" HDMI setting.
I can do you some for £27.50 if you want ;-)0 -
Buy the cheapest HDMI cable you can find.
You will not get a better picture with one cable over another because it's a digital signal that doesn't deteriorate, it either works or it doesn't - anyone who tells you otherwise either a) is trying to kid themselves there's a difference because they spent so much on a lead or b) is trying to sell them.
As for your PC if the TV has a 'PC in' it's probably a sdtandard VGA lead like you mention.

£3.74, free P&P for 2m, even the "premium cable" is only £8.99
I'm with Dan1979, unless you have exceptional hearing and eyesight, you wouldn't notice the difference.
The first link you made is where I buy mine, and I have had no problems whatsoever0 -
If your DVD is upscaling, it isn't actually improving the video quality. It's just filling in the extra lines, and the whole point of having a High Def DVD player is lost.0

Saying that the signal doesn't deteriorate isn't strictly true.
With longer cable runs, crap (not necessarily cheap) cables will have signal loss that will stop you using 1080p reliably.

I don't go in for these A/V enthusiasts with their cryogenically frozen wallplugs and stuff, but I do trust an oscilloscope.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
That's what I meant by it works or it doesn't. If you got sparklies or image dropouts you'd class it as not working properly, it's not like analog where you might get colour bleeding or whatever introduced.
1080p itself shouldn't be a problem with cheap leads unless you need longer distances, I think the tests showed up to 3 metres any lead should do.0 -

A good progresive scan player may give you a significant improvement.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
How do you get free P&P? Cheapest way of doing it that I can see is £1.99. I did notice there's a free delivery offer on the site but there's a minumum order of £10.Red_Rose_Exile wrote: »£3.74, free P&P for 2m,...0 -
if you have a topend dvd player that upscales then yes spend £50 put if you have not no more than a tener with p+p there is not point i did not even spend £50 for a upscaling dvd player never mind a lead
