Well I had the window open all day (except during the school run) and the heater on and would you believe it was dry by 7pm :D Only trouble is it still stinks of urine so I'm going to have to try deodorising stuff tomorrow..bicarb?

Bit late now, but sometimes they seem dry when they are still damp in the middle. I was going to say put some towels on it anyway! Def try bicarb in the morning. Vinegar & lemon juice are good for urine, but not too sure if vinegar would smell even worse on the matress.

I can totally empathise - we spent a fortune on a futon to squeeze into our tiny spare room, then when MIL came to stay the dog went upstairs and peed on it  :T .

I scrubbed it with stardrops, then soaked it through with 'Simple Solution' (pet stain/odour remover stuff, fab) and we stood it up to dry. Got it dried out OK but it's still stained and stinky.

The worst of it is, about 2 months after spending a fortune on it, we found out I was pregnant so it will have to go or we'll have nowhere to put the baby ... chances of covering our costs by selling on a stinky, stained futon mattress? .... I'd say about zero!

*sigh* Sometimes it's hard to be a woooooomannnnnn ....

Well it's now dry and been bicarbed on both sides of the mattress. No stains :D No smell :D I'm a happy mummy, especially as this is only the 2nd accident in 2 years (both after going to bed upset :o )

Glad you got sorted out ,someone once told me that talc on the wet stain brings smell and stain out ,apparently this lady was living in military accomodation and they get into trouble if children stain beds ,so I presume this might work, always think could have been worse.

i must admit when dd got her new mattress a few months ago i left the plastic on it, i know it says not to but i put 2 sheets on her bed so its not plasticy and noisy and she doesn't seem to notice!!

You're quite right about the army wife trick ellie14. My mum also used to use a thick paste of bleach and talc, spread on and peeled off later to remove blood stains from mattresses.

As an instant-use bed protector (always on hand or great when you're skint) is to pop a torn open bin bag on the bed and cover it with a towel. My son has one and he's never complained once. Good lad, true OS boy!

Ive read soda water gets rid of the smell of pet wee, so maybe that would be one to try in future?

    Hello,

After months of dry beds, I decided to remove the mattress protectors from my little girls bed. I suppose therefore it was inevitable that she peed on it. Suffice to say any tips on how to clean this vile smelling mattress would be appreciated,

    Thanks in advance, Denty.
