Urine on mattress - please help!

The mousie,
unfortunately liquid will sink straight down into a foam mattress. No matter what cleaning stuff you use, you will only be able to clean the surface. You wont be able to clean deep into the wetted depths of the mattress. Given time not only will the mattress probably smell it will break down too.
If you insist on cleaning it, can i suggest you use biological washing powder? I used it on my carpets when the dogs were puppies. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi Judi. It's quite thin, like a futon. So I was thinking towel/squeeze out a much as possible, good sponge/scrub with soapy vinegary water. Then outside to ?
And yes, he's doing it! Lol0 -
I'd still stick to biological detergent. Not sure what vinegar will do but it certainly shouldnt hurt it. I'd still worry about the foam breaking down though.

My DS fell asleep in his sistes buggy on hol, he's only 3 so not dry when asleep. He had the inevitable accident. I got a bucket of water with a splash of disinfectant, and sloshed the buggy down with it, hopefully forcing any urine left through the other side. Then it was left in a sunny corner to dry fully. It didn't smell at all. Had we been at home, I too would have used some bio laundry stuff in the water.
Yes, your friend definitely needs to take charge of this fix!Bossymoo

Yes the first bit, but I wouldn't use vinegar to begin with a strong solution of biologial washing powder to resaturate the area. The vinegar at the beginning may affect the enzymes.0 -
In pet shops you can buy this sort of thing, http://www.petsathome.com/shop/stain-and-odour-remover-trigger-spray-500ml-by-pets-at-home-30212
I don't know if supermarkets sell it.
If it's an adult then I would definitely buy something similar, as the chances of getting rid of the smell is pretty small I would have thought. When it gets warm the chances are you'll be able to smell it again.0 -
I know that you can buy a urine neutralising product from cleaning companies but it is very expensive so the cheapest option would be to buy a pet urine neutraliser from pets at home.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Hi Mousie,
As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to our main thread on dealing with urine on a mattress to keep the advice in one place.

I am more interested in your narrowboat story. Does it work out cheaper than a flat?0
