    Dawny10,

I've just rung TalkTalk and asked him specifically what do they mean by you would be registered as a TalkTalk Plus customer. He told me it meant that you would be entitled to the calling circle, etc and it didn't include the line rental.

I've read the t&c and it isn't very clear about whether or not it automatically includes Line Rental when they start doing it.

    I did note this though:-
2.5 Your Tariff Plan may be charged at a higher monthly tariff if you do not through out the term of your Contract continue to take both the LR Service and the TalkTalk Plus Service from TalkTalk. If you terminate the LR Service or migrate to another LR service provider, the remaining CPS Service you receive may be charged at a higher rate.
It appears though from reading this from OfCOM's website, that TalkTalk did have a clause in their t&c that stated they reserved the right to transfer their customers to line rental without consent. OfCOM in their investigation claimed this was unfair and TalkTalk have said they would amend the t&c so that their customers could say no.

I'd suggest that you email TalkTalk and state you wished to sign-up to their TalkTalk3 package at £7.99 for 12 months (first 3months free) and ask the following questions:-
    1. Is it a condition of the TalkTalk3 offer that you have to sign-up to their LR (Line Rental) service or will you be automatically registered for their LR service when it is launched?
    2. Can you still keep your LR with BT throughout their offer of 12months at £7.99?
It is better to email this and keep the reply for future use than speaking to someone over the phone because if it does become apparant that the offer is on the condition that you take out LR with them then according to their t&c you would be stuck in a minimum of 3months contract for the LR service and you could get out of it by saying you were told it didn't matter in an email. What you are told over the phone is classed as hearsay and would difficult to prove that TalkTalk lied to you unless you record the phonecall (which itself could be illegal).

I love this site! Just checked the forum becuase my Talk2 pacakge is coming to an end and there is already a thread on the options.

I wonder if anyone can answer a couple of questions?

1)Is there a landline alternative number for Talktalk customer services as opposed to the 0870 one?
I emailed them to ask about cancellation as I resent paying 0870 rates. Do they reply to emails?

    2) Is there a link for the Tele2 package and does anyone have any advise regarding it?

    TIA

I'm an existing customer and they eventually switched me to Talk3, after initially telling me that I'd have to cancel and then re-join TalkTalk.

If you call them using the 0870 444 1820 number from your TalkTalk registered phone, then this will be a free call, as is evident from their website:

I took bbb_uk's advice and emailed them about the Talk Talk plus service that they register you for when you sign up.

They said (and I was impressed at the quick reply!)
"I can confirm for you that if you decide to join Talk Talk service you do not have to join Talk Talk line rental.
You can join Talk Talk on our Talk 3 special offer without having to join our landline service, by becoming a Talk Talk plus customer all this would mean is that you agreed to receive information from us about our products and special offers."

So it sounds like they will bother you with info about it but you are not forced to sign up, and that they will still honour the £7.99 Talk3 offer on at the mo.

So it sounds as if it is not too sinister after all. I must stop being so suspicious all the time!

It's not so much suspicious as cautious!

As you can see from the OfCOM link in my previous post, TalkTalk did have in their t&c that they would automatically register you for line rental without knowledge or consent but OfCOM basically made them change it.

I called Talk Talk this morning as my Talk 2 free offer is about the expire on 4th August. She would not budge on giving me a free extension even though I said I was considering switching. (I don't really want to switch as my calling circle are mainly Talk Talk so are free calls anyway, just make the odd out of circle call)

Might try again later. Wondering if they say it again whether to switch to the Talk 3 tariff for three months then revert back again after that to Talk 1. What do you think?

Tried again by calling Talk Talk and telling them that I was thinking of switching to Tele2 unless they could offer a price match. They checked the Tele2 offer and said it was running till the end of the year and that they would match that for me. So I got four more free months.

See, it depends on the operator! Nice one Talk Talk. Next review, end of Dec 2005!

I phoned Talk Talk and asked for another deal ,and they said they could offer me free weekend calls only ,I asked for disconnections and was then offered another year off free evening and weekend calls .My friend phoned Talk Talk to see if he could get the same but he was offered 30 minutes off free mobile calls for 3 months .He should have been using 1899 for mobiles .

update My friend phoned Talk Talk back after 2 weeks and asked for the free evening and weekend calls to be extended for another year .and they said yes .He got 30 minutes free mobile calls for 3 months & free evening & weekend landline calls for a year ,a good deal in the end .
