can I freeze cheese

  • I freeze it all the time and it seems fine. I think the usual issue with freezing cheese is that it goes crumbly but as feta is crumbly anyway, I guess that makes it ideal. I do use it in cooking rather than just 'as is' though

    Hi

I freeze mine now - thanks osers. Used to throw it out cos it's only me that likes it and it's too calorific for me to eat it all.

I cut it into portions and then freeze. Means it's always handy for a quick baked tattie or whatever else.

    Saved me a fortune.

The feta cheese I have bought is vacuum packed and always has a ridiculously long shelf-life. Sod the calories! Eat it then have a cheese free week afterwards to make up for it;)

I always freeze cheese with no problem. I usually cut it in smallish blocks and wrap it in clingfilm,

    good luck,

Yes, you can freeze all cheeses, even things like feta and mozarella.

Yep, we freeze cheese. Most often we grate it in advance and then use it when cooking (pizzas, sauces, over pasta, etc). Never had a problem yet... ;)

    Hi lewt,

We have an older thread on freezing cheese that should help you so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the replies together.

  • Sorry for another "Can you freeze" thread. I have checked the mega index and done a massive search but nothing came up.

As the title says, is it possible to freeze feta cheese.

You can only seem to buy it in 200g blocks and it is supposed to be eaten within 3 days of opening (although that may be more supermarket caution than actually true). It's only me here and I honestly think I would struggle to get through that much (but need to buy some for a recipe). I've only ever bought the stuff with olives in oil, which would be no good for the recipe I need it for.

    Cheers
