What's the best "OTR" price you have negotiated for a new Toyota Aygo?

I don't see why you couldn't try and ask for the travel set or roof bars thrown in - they probably wouldn't give you both (although you don't know until you try!). Just be really hard-nosed, stick to your guns and be prepared to walk away if they won't budge. Someone will (at least to some extent - from what I've been reading, it's hard to get much knocked off a Toyota).
Be sure to let us know how you get on!

I love the blue colour. What puts me off about the blue is the blue bits on the interior. I wonder if they will look a bit naff. I haven't actually seen one so I can't be sure. I don't want alloys so thats OK. I like the leather seats in the Platinum! Leather seats is something I wil miss from our present vehicle. Also, not having seen an Aygo's fabric seats, I can't be sure what they are like. Our dealer only had the Platinum to test drive and in the showroom.0 -
I see the Toyota website is by far the best at giving you pictures of the car.
Peugeot gives a couple of pics and
Citroen (the worst) gives you 2 small pics, (that I could find easily).
However, from the pics I have seen the French 2 are essentially the same car in all respects. The Toyota has a different front bumper, bonnet,.headlamps, rear door, rear wing, rear bumper. but is the same in other externals like rear hatch, front wing.
The inside is the same on all 3, same dash, same seats.
I can tell you that you can pick up a 1 year,6month - 1year,10 month (2006 '06/'56) old pug / toyota with 4K -5K miles for about 5300 - 5400 including fees at auction
And there is a pug 1.2 Sport XS red 6K miles 2007 '07 <<< that could be an error the 1.2 engine
New price 8,300
auction price 6,300 inc fees

What sort of sellers take such a new car to auction? Seems a lot to pay for a car one cannot see - then again we don't see a new car until it actually arrives.
I would love to buy second hand as I never bought new and don't really want to. Our present car, seven years ago, we paid 11,250 for at 18 months old - the list price new was 20,500. Normally you save so much.0 -

Not actually seen a blue interior yet, but saw the normal Aygo+ with fabric seats. They're fine, really, but if you're used to leather then you might not like them regardless?! Instead of the style pack then, how about the Hide pack - leather seats and alcantara (which admittedly is more expensive - £625 I think) but if you're haggling...?
If you really want a second hand one, have you tried pistonheads? (website where advertising your car is free) - I saw some nice examples of aygos (but no platinums at the time I looked) for very reasonable prices (between £4500 and £6500 depending on model). I guess it depends on your location, really?? Also, it limits you to what other people requested in their spec's when they bought new.
How long are you intending on keeping the car? If you're worried about the initial depreciation hit, how about getting one that's been pre-registered? Although, that all depends on how eager dealers are to get rid of them (i.e. if demand is high, less likely to find pre-reg'd ones, if I understand correctly).
I'm going to check out some dealers at the weekend, hopefully someone will have a blue in stock so I'll let you know if it's tacky!
Oh, and you asked about our previous 2nd car - yes it was a gas-guzzler, high insurance and we had many, many unexpected repairs to boot! So that's why we got rid of it, and that's kind of why we're going for a new car - so that we'll have three years worry-free motoring and we'll know exactly where our money will be each of those 36 months! But I appreciate your advice and understand where the confusion came in with regards to clearing existing debt etc. so thank you.0 -
The 1 year 10 month Aygo is being sold by "Lookers"
and they are a new car/used car dealer owning certain manufacturer franchise dealerships a search for used aygos turned up this on their website
http://www.lookers.co.uk/UsedCars.aspx?Make=TOYOTA&Model=AYGO&
At £5,300 you'd be saving approx £1,000 judging by their prices (which if you notice are mostly Toyota dealerships)
And this is the one on sale at auction (on the 14th Feb @ Bedford) It's an "Aygo +" no mention of any other extras.
As for the Pug Sport it is being sold by Inchcape who are dealership/retail and fleet company, it could be a trade in. They have lots of dealership with lots of manufacturers but they don't have a pug dealership, possibly the reason they have decided to shift it through auction, as it is a bit of an unusual car.0 -

I await your report on the Blue with interest! I will take a look at pistonhead as well.
We keep cars for ages. Our present car, a 2 litre Avensis CDX, we have had for over seven years. It is heavy on all the expenses and although she runs well at the moment a time will come when she won't and with two children I do not need a car that might let me down.
The first depreciation hit doesn't worry me but I don't want to pay it if I don't need too! In other words, having a new car doesn't bother me in the slightest so long as I can find a decent second hand. I don't need all these customised bits and am happy to buy a second hand without them - if I can find a decent one - but if I do end up with new then I will go for everything I want (within financial reason).
We intend to keep her for many years and, hopefully, my 12 year old will be able to learn to drive in her - a very scary thought!0 -
Dosent the 3-Cyl engine put anyone off?
I personally test drove Toyota Yaris & Mitusibhi Colt (both 3-cylinder) few months back.
They are awful over 60 mph. Just like OP, I mainly use my car within city. But sometimes I do go into motorways for longer drives.
3-cyl engines "can" go till 80 mph - but they will struggle! Engine noise will be very high and you won't feel good inside
If you can afford a car purely for city use then no problem. But majority of people can't afford a car solely for city use.
Then again, different people have different priorities.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
Actually, this is a valid question!

I like to drive at 55 on motorwaysIt takes the stress out of the journey.

I do two long journeys a year, on my own, which I would usethe Aygo for. I am happy to sit at 60. I tend to do 70 in the Avensis but I'm sure 70 in the Avensis will feel the same as the Aygo at 60!
Look, let's not beat about the bush, there is going to be some compromise here. The vehicle is very cheap, both in capital and in running costs, compared to almost everything else out there worth looking at. And, to some degree, it has some style. I know it was aimed at the yoof market but I can see it appealing to people like me - a money conscious mother who needs a runabout that doesn't feel like a lidded skip. We do have mobiles and ipods as well!
I don't want to spend too much on a car now as, once the children have left home, I will use the savings to buy an MX-5. Obviously, at that point Martin will ban me from here!0 -

I agree with that Kes, my only real concern with the Aygo would be the tiny boot space, but if you are happy with that, go for it.
I am sure any Toyota will live up to it's reputation for reliablity.0 -

If you have nothing helpful to say, keep it to yourself.
Oh dear hit a nerve did we, no one was 'attacking you' though you choose to take it personally, you had a signature that says you are several thousand pounds in debt and and you are talking about buying a new car, what did you expect.
As for your last sentence, well sorry but this is a public forum and people at entitled to voice an opinion, tough if you don't like it.0
