  • I read everyone who rates me - as seems to be polite, many people mention that they do this on their personal page. Some people I read I know from here, some from other websites, others I didn't know till joining Dooyoo - that hardly seems like a 'rather complicated scheme' to me.

I'd like it closed. I feel like others do that we're being accused of being dishonest and being money grabbing. I agree with clearmydebts - we need to make it clear to everyone that this isn't about shoddy reviews for loads of money, and that it is not acceptable to be asking for crowns nominations.

By the way Camp Freddy, the Dooyoo guidelines say it is perfectly fine to read everything that one person writes - as if you're interested in their opinion why wouldn't you want to know what they think about everything they review. They only specify that you should read them rather than just click and not read. I don't think we need people making up their own extra rules and expecting everyone else to abide by them. The same goes for particular guides or reviewers 'demanding' amounts of detail - they have a right to make constructive comments or to report unsuitable content, they do not have the right to make up their own specifications or make quite rude or hurtful comments to reviewers.

Where exactly does it say what 'the Community expects'? I will abide by the rules (the actual ones that is, not the imaginary ones), and write to the best of my ability. For gods sake, it is a website of consumer reviews, not a secret society!

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your point of view, you're rushing in to a community that is around eight years old and has changed very little since its inception. You can quote the rules all you please, but if you actually want to take part in the community, then it's wise to listen to the community. Some might argue that these community rules are more important than the official ones. I don't necessarily agree with this, but I throw it out there for your consideration.

Churning is not against dooyoo's rules, for example. The community frowns upon it. If you are seen to be leeching from the site, the community will eventually stop reading and nominating your work. It's human nature. My own personal opinion is that as long you're not in "reads debt", then you can post as much as you like, preferably to a decent standard.

As I mentioned earlier, there are unofficial forums for reviewers. I'll see if I can find their addresses but I believe they're called opinionators and review writers forum and idodooyoo. The "community" also speaks through the comments section of some reviews. Look at the dooyoo-related topics and you'll soon see the community in action.

Ironically, reading everything by a single member is a community action. But there is no way you can possibly be interested in every single topic someone else writes on, so if you end up reading (and nominating) a review, then you're only doing so to give them the money (IMHO) and that then leads on to people wondering if you're indeed rating accurately or if there is indeed cartel action going on. You don't need to make sure you rate back every person that's given you a rate, just that your rate count is more than your rated count.
  • Thank you for admitting that this is your 'opinion' Freddy, the truth is that I am the Community as much as you are. We all are.

The only issue here of any relevance is that of a Clicking Cartel - most of us maintain that this isn't one, and those who might have been accused of such a thing have been very quiet recently on this forum. The majority of the people on this forum are abiding by both the rules of the site and also the spirit of the community. I'm about to go and use Dooyoo to research my new freezer.

Well I haven't gone looking for anybody that has listed their name in this thread on Dooyoo. If somebody rates my reviews then I become aware of them and check out a couple of theirs, If I like what I'm reading I take a look at products they've reviewed I am interested in and rate those as well.

I personally love writing and always have whether it be reviews, songs, scripts whatever and I love using dooyoo and STP as I spend time doing things I love and also have a motivation as well to pick up a bit of money at the end of it.

I really don't want people to think that just because we're all coming from here that allI'm thinking about is getting the money. :(

Yeah - if someone rates a review of mine, then I will check out what they've written and, if they have reviewed something that I'm interested in or have a basic knowledge of, I'll read and rate it. If someone has reviewed something that I know nothing about, I tend not to. I'm not sure I see the harm in it... if we only tend to rate reviews that we stumble upon, surely some excellent reviews could be overlooked?

I think you need to reach a balance. I can't see the harm in reading a few reviews written by people that you know, as long as you're rating fairly and still exploring the rest of the dooyoo community.

I would just like to say that I love Dooyoo and enjoy writing reviews as well as reading reviews. I have bought many products from reviews that I have read from the site that I may not have done without getting the input first.

I do look through my circle of friends every couple of days or so just to see if there are any reviews that interest me, and if so, then I rate them. I certainly don't rate every review in my circle of friends - that would be madness and a total waste of time. It's just the same as if you look through the new comments, but I prefer to look at new reviews that members that I trust have written.

If anyone (from my circle or not from my circle) rate one of my reviews,I will then check out their profile and read what I think would interest me.

There are certain members in my circle who write fantastic reviews and I love reading what they have to say.

I put a great deal of effort into my reviews, and they are usually way over the 150 words. I think one of them was over 1000 words because I had so many points to make. I don't see the point in posting loads of rubbish reviews, as people just rate them low and then you lose your credibility anyway and that's why I usually do one or two a day, sometimes three if there are loads of things that I want to review. I think the most I've ever done was four!

I don't actually tend to be very sociable in such online communities anyway haha. I get what you're saying though I always play fairly at things like this. I have asked a good friend of mine to join and everytime he writes something new I will read it but I haven't nominated any of his reviews for a crown as I don't think they're good enough for one [no offence to him obviously haha].

Dooyoo is just such a great site with a wonderful community spirit from what I can see though there is one person that seems to criticse literally every review and really F***S me off. :/

WOW! What a long thread! I'm a long time contributor to Ciao DooYoo, Epinions, and several other of those sort of places past and present. I get what both sides are saying on the clicking thing. It's a bit icky to only read your friends in excahnge for return reads, as it sort of distorts the purpose of the system. But if you are reading stuff that actually interests you, and also reading other people other than those you friended for the purpose, that's another story. Asking for noms to crowns or E's in hope of a Diamond though is a def no no, but to be honest, if they are not worthy, you are unlikely to get one anyway as staff on the sies vett them, its not a who gets the most votes gets one type deal. The noms and E's and all that just help get you noticed and in the consideration for the kudos.

I also am a writer. I don't mean for the review sites. I write for magazines and anthologies and such. You have to get a thick skin about what an editor tells you about a piece, and the same principle applies to suggestions from community leaders/guides/members. It's a small box with limited text so it might not come across as intended, and they are genuinely trying to help you succeed. It might smart a little if you thought you had done a great job, and maybe you did, but it could have perhaps been crown worthy or that bit more useful to the general population. And let's face it, review sites exist for people who are considering buying a product. You Google the product and up comes the DooYoo and Ciao reviews for the item, as well as the online shops selling it. THOSE people generate the cash they can pay you with as they get more foot traffic that then clicks to buy the product, than they do from members who like what you said so will buy one right now. Especially when reviewing say, a 60 inch HDMI TV. These sites are businesses out to make money, not just pay you and hope for the odd bit of cash to keep the site online.

Oh yes, the cold fill washer thing I read several pages back. You might have hooked up your washer to the cold water, but if when you take a bath or run the shower, you get blasted with cold water if the washer is on, that means your washer is also conncted to the hot water tap. Cold fill only means you have hooked it up using a special double adapter so both hot and cold inlets on your machine get only water from the single cold water connection, so it always uses the onboard heater to warm the wash water. That way its not nicking your hot shower water. Our washer is hooked up that way and it is great!

  • Most stuff has been covered in this thread - have a quick skim read, and ask questions if there is anything not clear. Personally I've found Dooyoo much more self-explanatory than Ciao - I've just started reviewing there too but still not clear on how it works! The FAQ on Dooyoo are pretty clear too - but come back if you have questions! :D
Once you write some reviews some of us will add you as a friend - but really the best way to get your reviews read and rated (which gets you more points) is to read and rate other peoples - then they return the favour.

    Thanks.

I skimmed the thread but lost the will to live about page 10 as it wasn't answering my questions. Seeing critiques of reviews on here now I hope I've got the gist of the style to write in and what sort of info should go in. That was basically the info I was looking for. I'll see what I can start on.

I couldn't find what churning was but no I won't be doing that, it isn't my style.

So new Q - What do you do if you have bought an appliance that isn't in the list of makes and models?

You use the 'Suggestions' button on your personal page to suggest that the item is added. You need to find a description and picture of it on a website and include the web address so the Dooyoo-ers can check it out and add it.

I've done this a few times, the first were added very fast but I've been waiting a few days now for another suggestion to be added.
