But then I might be tempted to comment on the review, instead of sticking to commenting one one persons view of it.getting-sorted-sarah wrote: »Those of us who have read it found it to be a very good review, it made me wish I had bought that make when I chose a toaster recently.
I didn't say the review wasn't good, or that it was bad. Just that the person who pointed out that it did not include the things people would want to know.
I think it's a fair point to say "you didn't say if it makes good toast" or "you didn't say if it was easy to clean" or "you didn't say if it toasts the slices evenly on both sides"
These are things you can only find out by using one, or reading a review by someone who has used one. Regardless of whether the review was good or bad, I can understand someone being disappointed that it did not contain the answers to the three most important questions.0 -

Surely that's the whole point of buying one, isn't it? It's the one thing people want to know before they buy it
yep, i really used it for 25 years and not mention if it makes good toast. i'm just a crazy kinda guy!
i also know people who *never* even switch their toaster on cos it's a design icon.
and i personally would really like to know if it has any longevity because i know that a tenner toaster can sometimes last a day longer than the guarantee.
i can't believe i'm still discussing this.
my point is this.

I'm all up for writing my opinion of the product and what it does (eg toaster, how it makes toast, skincare how it makes your skin) but I don't get why some people write a really long history of the shop and then next to nothing on the actual product.
The same for people who write about some things, eg skincare, and write loads about what the ingredients are and not about how it actually worked and how they looked after, which is surely what you want to know as you can just read the ingredients really easily?!!0 -
Some of the pedantic people on there really get on my tits and take the fun out of it.0

It wasn't the toaster I was on about. It was the fact that you/people didn't like someone mentioning that your review did not tell them the three things they wanted to know. Things they could only get from someone who had used one.
It's all very well forming a little club and rating each others reviews to gain money. But if you want strangers, who are genuinely looking to buy the product to rate your review you have to give them what they are looking for.
And you should not be disappointed when someone who is not in your club says your review didn't give them what they wanted.0 -

Well I think the person who made the comment about jmarko's post is one of them. But I also think that someone who looks for faults in everything can actually find a genuine fault every once in a while.
The thing to remember is, if you are writing purely for the money then ignore the comments others make. Every minute you spend in here writing about someone who didn't like your comment is a minute you could have been earning money from your writing.
But if you want to write to get praise from people, other than those in your circle, then you have to listen to the criticism you get and take note of it. You have to tell them the things they want to know, not the things you want to tell them.0
