I got the impression that the 'community' liked the idea of returning the favour by rating someone who has rated you. Are we now being told this is wrong?

Ideally, you should be rating a lot more than you are rated, if you're concerned about the community aspect. Not everyone can (or does), of course, but "breaking even" is the least the community expects.
I did comment on here about a certain person making what I felt were picky comments - and to be honest it was simply because my feelings were a bit hurt, and someone else had complained about receiving picky comments from the same person - I was using this as a 'comfort and support' forum. Maybe I'm sad, but I do my best, and okay some of my reviews are better than others. I'll try to improve a little with each review.

Everyone has their own points of view on reviews. Some people, even those named on here in previous posts, will demand a lot of detail. Others are more concerned with less detail but more personal, general experience or opinion.

Write your reviews and let the ratings and comments take care of themselves. Concertate on getting the most out of dooyoo (not necessarily the most money) and you'll find that everything falls into place.
I have put a LOT of time and effort into Dooyoo and sincerely hope we are not now being threatened with no payout just because we 'know' each other here as well as there. I repeat - I rate people I know, but I also rate a lot of people I don't know. And I wouldn't nominate for a crown unless I felt it was deserved. And I certainly don't churn - I have neither the time nor the inclination.

You can defend yourself all you want, but the overall tone of this thread appears to me (and this is MY opinion only) to milk Dooyoo for cash. If you have nothing to hide, then don't worry about defending yourself here.

Would you read a review written by someone on this thread because they wrote it, rather than because they could tell you something you wanted to know about?

Actually I probably would. Surely once you get to know a person you have a better chance of deciding whether or not to trust what they say? You only have to look at a random selection of new reviews to see that some people give better info than others. If you then come to trust that person, surely it's only natural you would read their reviews/comments.

It's like asking if you would trust your friend simply because she's your friend. Of course you would. You would expect that what she says is reliable - and that is more important than a load of info from a stranger who may or may not be trustworthy.

Forgive me for rambling - I've got a migraine.

PS I'm not sure that's right about getting 1500 extra points for a crown anyway. I got a crown (woohoo!) but I didn't notice my points jump by that much.

In the consumer section, Crowns are definitely worth 1500 dooyoo points.

I agree to a certain extent. I have people I trust and I would ask them advice about personal issues or consumer stuff.

However, I am a male. I would not ask a trusted female friend about female hygiene items simply because she could give me information I would trust. Likewise, I wouldn't read a review on such items simply because this trusted female friend had written it. Therein lies the difference.

I have rated 911 and left comments on 73 (I only comment if I really feel it's something worth saying).

    I have received 589 ratings.

Sorry I feel the need to defend myself. As I said earlier, I am struggling with a migraine so maybe I'm not as rational as I should be :o. I feel like we are being threatened, so of course I want to defend myself. I am doing it for the vouchers - why else would I do it? For the love of mankind? But doing it for the vouchers doesn't automatically mean I am cheating or churning, and I object to the suggestion that I am. I am also doing reviews on bview and yes, I'm doing it for the money - but that doesn't mean my reviews are not valid, does it?

People are entitled to join dooyoo and be part of the community as long as they are writing honest reviews and are putting a bit of effort into it. There are a lot of forums out there and people are bound to bump into each other so it is only natural that they get to know each other and read each others reviews as well as other ones. I go into the new reviews during the day and rate the ones I am interested in. Then when I get my email from dooyoo in the morning I rate the people who have reviewed me (out of politeness). I always rate fairly and expect people to rate me honestly.

Yes, of course I am doing it for the vouchers but I only do a review every other day. If I was in it for the money I would be churning out heaps of reviews every day.

Maybe we should start a new thread with genuine people. I would like to see a thread where people talked about what they have reiewed that day. Not one where people are hi-jacking it and asking us to nominate us for crowns. It is giving us a bad name and isn't fair for genuine people (and there are lots here).

What does everyone else think? I feel this thread has been tarred with a 'money-grabbing' brush now.:huh:

As one of the Board Guides on this board, I'm quite happy to close this thread and open a new one (if there is a general concensus that it would be useful.) The opening post could then have some FAQs and general info about the site and how to write reviews/maximise info etc.

The other thought I had is whether the list of usernames really ought to be over on the Referrers' Board, seeing as everybody stands to gain financially by other people reading their reviews on DooYoo. I'll just open this up for debate for a while and come back later for your views! :o
  • I'd like it closed. I feel like others do that we're being accused of being dishonest and being money grabbing. I agree with clearmydebts - we need to make it clear to everyone that this isn't about shoddy reviews for loads of money, and that it is not acceptable to be asking for crowns nominations.

By the way Camp Freddy, the Dooyoo guidelines say it is perfectly fine to read everything that one person writes - as if you're interested in their opinion why wouldn't you want to know what they think about everything they review. They only specify that you should read them rather than just click and not read. I don't think we need people making up their own extra rules and expecting everyone else to abide by them. The same goes for particular guides or reviewers 'demanding' amounts of detail - they have a right to make constructive comments or to report unsuitable content, they do not have the right to make up their own specifications or make quite rude or hurtful comments to reviewers.

Where exactly does it say what 'the Community expects'? I will abide by the rules (the actual ones that is, not the imaginary ones), and write to the best of my ability. For gods sake, it is a website of consumer reviews, not a secret society!

Taken from the Dooyoo help pages:

"What should I know about dooyoo so I don't get banned for doing something dishonest?
The first is what we call a 'clicking cartel', where many accounts work quickly to generate dooyooMiles for one member, or each other. It's not a bad thing, of course, to read all the reviews of your favourite dooyoo authors, but over the years there have been some rather complicated schemes along those lines. All we can say is don't plot with your friends to rapidly rate each other's reviews - it isn't the purpose of dooyoo and it doesn't work."

To me, that seems to define what is going on on this site, rapidly rating other people's work to get them Dooyoo miles.

And to the person who mentioned they didn't get miles for their crown, Speakers Corner and Archive reviews which are crowned DON'T earn miles, only consumer products do. If it was a consumer product, contact Dooyoo about the missing miles.

I have seen one member suggest that we ought to rate the reviews of fellow MSE members in order to raise funds, and this suggestion was quickly dismissed by others posting here. Besides that, I've found no evidence of members violating the rules in the way that you seem to imply?

People are, as is permissable, reading reviews written by familiar names and rating as appropriate. There is no 'rapid rating', as far as I am aware, and certainly none that has been mentioned on this board, so I'm unclear as to how it seems to be going on on this site.

I do agree that such a 'clicking cartel' would destroy the purpose of dooyoo; helping fellow consumers to find the right products. However, I can also understand why members here are perhaps getting a little offended at being accused of this. The fact that money is perhaps one of the main incentives for people here to write reviews should not tarnish how their reviews (or ratings) are viewed. People are clearly putting a lot of effort into producing good quality reviews, and to read and rate those written by other members of the dooyoo community, regardless of their motivation.
