  • Cheers for those tips guys!!!!!

Will give it a go...and let you know the results.

Am still waiting for that elusive first sale but have had my Amazon shop closed while I was moving house and waiting for broadband connection at new house so fingers crossed for me!!!

  • Soo, An earlier post recommended collecting the squidgy foam stuff that is always around in the fruit and veg departments. I do this all the time now, wrap a book in it and then use large envelopes - much lighter on the postage, not had a complaint yet, but have had feedback saying 'well packaged'! Give it a go. Never through a big envelope away in the post, just re-label it.

I like that foamy stuff - it is very light too. I will have to go a-foraging in the supermarkets! :santa2:

I get all my bubble wrap from Tesco..they must think I'm barmy rummaging through the throw away pile. I actually asked them once if it was OK if I took some, and they definitely looked at me as though i was odd!

I do prefer to use a good new envelope though for my books and managed to get one of the books in a smaller envelope I had available, but ended up using a glittery gold envelope for the second one that I'd bought and not used for my sister's Chritmas parcel. So, both safely sent. However, just to be on the safe side I went past the 99p shop on my way back and stocked up on padded envelopes again in all sizes.

The odd thing with the Amazon books though was that I wasnt the cheapest seller on either of the books. I can see no real reason why they choose my copy as opposed to the cheaper ones, but I don't mind!
It could be that your book is in better condition or maybe you have better feedback?

That's what I don't understand, I listed mine as good, and there were other 'good' ones up for less. I've also only got 2 feedback. i'm not complaining though, they were books that had been cluttering up my shelves for ages.

Still on the theme of books generally, I bought a book on saturday from Ebay that was a mega bargain. It has just arrived (we get our post late) and it was so well wrapped I might copy the method in future. The seller had wrapped it very tightly with the 'large bubbles' bubble wrap then added brown parcel tape. OVer that he had used one of those grey polythene bags. It really looked well presented and I am well impressed especially as I got the book for £4.50 including post and packing that cost the seller £1.75. The book itself is a new release hardback that is £16.99 in the shops and as it is a specialist market I've never seen it discounted.

Soo (who has just realised that she has once again admitted to buying rather than selling books!)

this thread just gets better ;)

all those high-priced books! i'm sure we bought the madonna one a few years ago, but as a present. i'll have to look in friends and families bookcases :)

i was just about to suggest the grey plastic type bags and loads of bubble wrap soolin but it seems you've solved the problem. and i'm not sure why, but a few of my books have been a couple of quid dearer than the nearest, but they flew out of the window  could be that they look at feedback more than we think? i've bought a few things in the last couple of weeks, 1 had about 150 ratings and the service was great. then i bought some dvds from a seller with a higher count, still great but real slow to post.

then - i checked some of my closed listings and noticed a book i'd sold was selling at a third of the price from a seller that seems to appear on every list i add to. it seemed strange that they'd listed a book at such a low price, so i nobbled it.

somewhere in the back of my mind i thought this was too good to be true, and it was. they mailed a day later to say they'd made a mistake and didn't have the book. whilst it's not keeping me awake at night, i'm tempted to leave a low rating.

    what would anyone else do?

and well done to all you savvy book spotters :D

and just to save me going back 4 or 5 pages, sunday nights been my best night for selling. it went crazy this weekend ;)

a bit like ebay is i'd imagine?
  • Hurray!!! I have just made my first sale...a Flumps video...I AM pleased but don't seem to have made that much after Amazon have taken their cut. The email I received said that the person paid £4.14 and according to the email I have received £1.74, meaning that Amazon have received nearly two thirds of what it made. The video was priced at £1.39 so how anyone makes ANY money selling them at a penny is beyond me!!! Maybe sticking to the books is the best bet...we'll see!!!!

My Haynes manual is jinxed!!!!!!!! It sold over the weekend but the email said they were having a problem getting the payment so it was "pending".

I relisted it today and came home from work to find it had been sold to a different buyer. How delightful I thought until I opened my next email. It was the buyer saying they had made a mistake and could they please...please...have the money back! You have got to laugh!!!!!!! :snow_laug
