selling books on Amazon - tips for more profit

Can someone clarify if its policy to mail all products first class or is it optional? I notice that amazon states that goods should be dispatched within 1-2 days and then it goes on to say that inland you should expect delivery within 1-4 working days so I guess unless someone says an item is urgent second class would be acceptable?
Would you recommend recorded delivery for goods of a certain value or is proof of postage sufficient?

The accepted wisdom on this is it's OK to send it 2nd class if you do it on the first day, if it's the day after then it must be 1st class.
I always put in my description that I will dispatch on the same day by 1st class. I work at home so I can get to the PO every day - I hope this gives my books the edge on all the rest. The exception being heavy books, I drop the '1st class post' bit but still offer same day dispatch
edit - I just saw your question about high value books - 1st and 2nd class post only covers £30.00 so if your book is more valuable than that you need to go for Special Delvery, Recorded Delivery just won't do, that still only covers you for £30.00, the only advantage is the signature.0 -
I send everything first class and anything over £30 i send with extra insurance. Anything under £30 i always get a certificate of posting.0

I have a very heavy Calculus book and after looking into it, its really not worth selling on Amazon. I have weighed it and its heavier than 1kg, that means even standard parcels would cost £4.50 ish and second class would probably be more. There are MAD people on Amazon selling it for around £2.00...now my maths isn't great but they are not making any money are they??? Haven't checked if its on GM but I'm thinkin about ebaying it.
BTW my Amazon virginity is properly lost after making my second sale this morning!!!!!! Here's to all the others :beer:Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -

There are some sellers who really haven't looked at the postage and will certainly lose money if they are unfortunate enough to sell their book BTW second class only goes up to 750 grams0
