First time I've come across this - how does this happen? They suggest waiting 3 days before relisting if payment doesn't follow.
Is there any point in me waiting, surely they would have paid straight away if they really wanted it? Can I relist now or do I have to wait?
Sorry for all these questions!
(apologies if it's been asked before - I have read the whole thread and don't recall seeing anything about this...)
I have had one of these today now...........scream
Thats 2 in about 6 weeks.0 -
cymro1170 - I'm so excited for you!!! It's such a great feeling, I've sold the kids old revision guides, the paperback ones with a white stripe around top and bottom of cover, coordination publications. Nice and light to post, go like hotcakes! Loads at the boot sales - snap them up!0

Cymro - a nice little bonus, especially because your postage costs will have been as much as, let me guess -50 pence?purplepatch wrote:
One of the books I sold last night was for someone who coincidentally lives down the road from me so put it through their door today - hope I get some decent feedback for that one!
This reminds me of one of my transactions - I delivered one book and came away with another - it was for a cookery book and I recognised the name and address as a handwriting expert who has written a number of books she also advises the police and businesses and does lecture tours etc. she was only 2 miles away so I said that I'd take it straight round. We chatted about handwriting, amazon and ebay and she very kindly gave me one of her books signed and with a personal message (to stop me selling it on Amazon maybe? - as if I would)

Please can i have some help! I'm an amazon selling newbie thanks to this thread (sold one so far!)
I've found another obscure book that I'd like to put on amazon. Its listed but not held in stock and theres a buyer waiting. I've searched loads of books sites and book finder sites and just can't find this book anywhere. I paid £14.99 (new) for it a few years ago and its in great condition. What should I price it at?? I don't want to be greedy... but christmas is round the corner!!! What do you think?
Just to add.. amazon haven't listed a price for it as its not in stock.apprentice_tycoon wrote:I'd have a go at a high price, maybe around £20.00 and if there is no response from the waiting buyer keep reducing it until you either hit the price they said that they'd pay or you get the idea that they've found one somewhere else and forgotten to take if off the pre-order list (it happens, I'm afraid)
I did put the book up for £20 and its sold!!! I'd better take the price sticker off before I post it! Thank u!! :TSaving money is fun :A0 -
Very impressive! you'll remember that £20.00 book for a long while to come...great!0

Thanks for this great thread - I will get back into selling as a result. I spent three very happy years working for a second hand bookshop. Rule of thumb we never bought law (people want most recent edition), modern childrens or hardback modern fiction - unless its first editions and you really, really know what you are doing. We usually paid a third of what we thought we could sell it for - and worked on two thirds of the new price for text books etc. My boss always said that a book is worth what someone will pay for it - trite but true. Books on very specific subjects sold best - the more obscure they are the more profit, but often a wait to sell them.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0

I have bought & sold a heap of stuff using Amazon. One good tip to help maximise any profit is simple, but very effective - keep a good stock of padded envelopes & cd/dvd boxes from the stuff that gets sent to you.
Then, if you do find yourself getting into this selling malarkey, you'll find that you're already maximising profits by minimising your packaging expense.
It's worked for me, so should be viable for others.0 -
I've read this thread (honestly!;)) and thought I'd subscribed to it, but must have been another ...... so ....
Can anyone put a link up to Amazon please? Everytime I go it leads me to 'my store'or something, but I've only ever bought and I don't want to use the same name. Or delete cookies if necessary.
An idiot's guide would be handy too, but first things first

if you have already registered for buying then you are in the system - you can choose a selling nickname so don't worry that you will be showing your real name Sofa......oh, that isn't your real name?0

Nobody would be cruel enough to christen their kids with a name like Sofa would they?
The thing is apprentice tycoon, I've only ever bought stuff that was brand new, books, dvd's etc, so I don't know how I'm in the 'market place' thing
I'll have another look.
Thanks!0
